In May of last year, Elon Musk co-hosted an online event with Jim Farley, CEO of Ford. Farley made a shocking announcement: Ford would use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, which was created by Tesla. Starting this spring, Ford’s electric vehicles (E.V.s) like the F-150 Lightning trucks, Mustang Mach-E SUVs, and E-Transit cars will be able to connect to the Supercharger network. This makes the combination that seemed impossible possible.

Farley offered its electric vehicle (E.V.) customers in the U.S. and Canada a fast charging adapter, and he said online this week that they would be ready to buy soon. The CEO of Ford said that more information would be shared soon, but he didn’t say when.

Ford EV drivers are given free Tesla Supercharger adapters

We offered to give customers a Fast Charging Adapter when we said that Ford EVs would be able to use Tesla Superchargers. Farley says on X, previously Twitter, “I’m happy to confirm that eligible Mustang Mach-E & F-150 Lightning owners in the U.S. + Within the near future, Canada will be able to reserve a complimentary adapter.

A Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) port is now built into all Ford electric cars. Ford plans to give customers an adaptor that lets them connect to the Supercharger network until 2024. The company will start putting native ports, which don’t need any extra parts, into their E.V.s next year. The BlueOval Charge Network, which is part of Ford, has more than 84,000 public D.C. fast chargers that E.V. owners can use right now. As part of the deal with Tesla, 12,000 Superchargers will be added to the network in the U.S. and Canada. This year, Ford plans to install 1,800 public fast chargers.

NACS will be used in electric cars made by BMW, GM, Nissan, Mini, Jaguar, Toyota, Mazda, Volkswagen, and Rolls-Royce starting in 2025. New Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis cars should come with a NACS port this year. All of the charging ports were the same, so charging an E.V. while you’re on the go was as easy and safe as plugging in an appliance at home.
