You have always wanted a Ford Ranger that you could plug in. Please be patient. We are just some of the ones who wish to this wired mid-size. But Ford’s news that a plug-in hybrid electric Ranger will be available in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand “in early 2025” almost guarantees that there will be a Ford Ranger PHEV for the American market.

Ford did not publicly confirm when the plug-in Ranger would come out. Instead, it talked about its current hybrid and electric cars lineup, such as the Maverick, F-150 PowerBoost, and F-150 Lightning. Ford stopped making cars a few years ago, except the Mustang. One reason for this was that it wanted to focus on SUVs and trucks, and it promised that all SUVs and trucks would one day come in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions. We plan to say something within the next year or so.

There are no plug-in hybrid electric mid-size trucks on the North American market (or minor or full-size trucks, for that matter). If Ford followed up its new 2024 Ranger with a 2026 PHEV Ford Ranger Thunder, it would be a game changer for the mid-size market. If Ford adds the Ranger Lightning, they might have a winning mix.

There will be more information about this global PHEV Ranger, such as price, trim choices (Ranger Raptor PHEV? ), and specs for the hybrid system. But for now, we know that the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo I-4 engine will be paired with an electric motor and a battery to make a hybrid system with more torque than any other Ranger. The storm is expected to allow about 28 miles of pure electric driving. The hybrid engine will be in the hands of the driver thanks to selectable EV drive modes. The Ranger XLT has the same advanced driver assistance and safety features as the rest of the Ranger lineup. It also has the same towing ability.

In the United States, the F-150 already has Pro Power Onboard, part of the Ranger’s plug-in hybrid engine. This system gives power on demand to camp or work tools, so you do not need different generators. Even though the global Ranger’s system output is unclear, the F-150’s built-in inverter displays 2.0, 2.4, or 7.2 kW through one 240-volt The hybrid battery in an automobile powers the generator, not the engine.

A 2.3-liter powers our (mostly) new 2024 Ford Ranger turbocharged I-4 with 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 with 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, and a Ranger Raptor-only 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 with 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
