To fill up their tanks, motorists whose vehicles are powered by gasoline or diesel can pull up to virtually any gas station without giving it a second thought. People that drive electric vehicles have a more difficult time of it. This is because electric cars now have a variety of charging ports, from the unusual CHAdeMO to the more common Combined Charging System (CCS) and Tesla’s own North American Charging Standard (NACS).

The way Tesla does things seems to be something that other companies are willing to do as well. Most people agree that the gold standard is the NACS charge port and Tesla’s huge network of Superchargers. Ford was the first carmaker to say it would work with Tesla and use the NACS plug in May 2023. After that, other automakers also said they would work with Tesla. A group of engineers called SAE International has also said that the NACS adapter will be standardized.

We have compiled a list of firms that are expected to use Tesla’s plug, as well as a list of companies with which we have heard conversations are now taking place, as well as a list of other automobile manufacturers and charging networks. This list will be changed when new agreements are made public or when we find out about new possible agreements.

Those car companies that have agreed to use Tesla’s charging plug are:

Fisker is a name

Starting in 2025, Fisker will use Tesla’s NACS charge port. Even though most people haven’t heard of it, the Fisker Ocean EV SUV is the start of the relaunch of the new EV car company. By the end of 2025, you’ll be able to buy more electric cars, like the 1000-hp Rnin, the $30,000 Pear, and the useful Alaska truck.

Ford

Beginning in the spring of 2024, drivers of Ford electric vehicles will be able to take advantage of the Tesla Supercharger network. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning both come equipped with a charge connector of the CCS type, but they are still able to use Tesla’s quick-charging stations with the use of an adapter. Ford thinks that by 2025, all of their EVs will have a common NACS plug.

The Book of Genesis

Genesis Motor North America said on October 5, 2023, that its electric cars will only be able to charge at NACS stations starting in late 2024 in the United States and in 2025 in Canada. Genesis says that starting in the first quarter of 2025, owners of Genesis EVs with a CCS connector will be able to use an adaptor to charge their cars at Tesla Superchargers. Genesis will also give owners of cars with NACS technology adapters so they can charge with CCS devices.

GM

The second automobile manufacturer to enter into an agreement with Tesla to use its charge outlet was General Motors. With an adapter that changes their CCS connectors to NACS, GM EV drivers will be able to use Tesla Superchargers starting in 2024. Beginning in 2025, all of GM’s electric cars will have to have NACS. The company also said that it will sell adapters that will let cars with NACS chargers use CCS charges.

Honda

Honda has decided to use Tesla’s charge port, making it the latest car company to do so. The company said that all of its new electric cars made after 2025 will have the NACS plug. Honda also said that it would make an adapter that would let its electric vehicles with CCS plug into Tesla’s charging network.

Hyundai

Hyundai said in October 2023 that it would put the Tesla NACS charging connector in new or changed electric cars starting in the fourth quarter of 2024. Hyundai will also give people who already own electric cars but don’t have NACS ports an adapter, and people who buy cars with NACS ports will get switches that make them work with CCS charging stations.

Jaguar is a car

Jaguar said in September 2023 that the NACS will work with its next EVs, which will come out in 2025. The company also says it will buy adapters from Tesla and send them to present I-Pace owners so they can charge their cars with Superchargers.

Kia

Kia America said on October 5, 2023, that it will start putting the NACS port in new electric cars (EVs) sold in North America in the fourth quarter of 2024, and that CCS-to-NACS converters will be available at Kia dealers in early 2025. The Kia Soul EV, which is offered from 2015 to 2019, is the only one that can use CHAdeMO. Users of Kia EVs will be able to use the Kia Connect app to find Tesla Supercharger stations after a “coming” software change, the company says.

Mercedes-Benz is a car brand

Mercedes-Benz is the first German company to say it will use Tesla’s NACS charging connector. Starting in 2025, all of its electric cars will have this connector as standard. Also, the company says that it will start selling an adaptor for its CCS-equipped cars in 2024. This will let customers use the Supercharger network. Mercedes also wants to build its own charging infrastructure in North America, with the goal of having over 2500 fast-chargers. The first of these chargers will be available in the last few months of this year. They will work with EVs from other brands, not just Mercedes.

Nissan makes cars

Nissan is the first Japanese car company to say it will use Tesla’s NACS charge port in Canada and the United States starting in 2025. In 2024, Nissan will definitely give Nissan Ariyas with a CCS-style plug an adaptor that will let them join to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Volvo and Polestar

Polestar and Volvo are the first companies from outside the United States to work with Tesla. Starting in 2025, all EVs made by Swedish companies owned by China will come with a common NACS port. Like with the other companies, an adaptor will be ready in the first half or middle of next year to make their CCS links work with Tesla’s Superchargers. Polestar and Volvo will also give people who need to connect to a charger that isn’t made by Tesla a NACS-to-CCS adapter.

Rivian

Rivian, like Ford and GM, has chosen to work with Tesla. In 2025, the NACS ports will be added to the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV. The following year, a connector for these kinds of models will come out.

Supposedly, automakers are in talks with Tesla:

Stellantis is a place

Stellantis officials were quoted by Reuters as saying that the company is considering using Tesla’s charging connector in the future. But there has been no public announcement of an official deal. Stellantis works with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, and Ram, among other cars, in the American market.

Volkswagen is a car company

Reuters says that Volkswagen is thinking about teaming up with Tesla. The choice to use a NACS port is likely to affect other brands made by the automaker that are sold in the United States, such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche, and Lamborghini.

Networks that charge with NACS

Some public charging networks have made deals with Tesla to add the NACS connector to their stations. This is comparable to the way that certain manufacturers have announced their collaborations publicly.

The ChargePoint

ChargePoint has said that its charging units will now have the NACS-style socket. The company just said that it will happen “soon,” but they didn’t give any more information about when. ChargePoint also said that it would keep making several types of chargers.

America needs to be made better

The Volkswagen Group, which owns Electrify America, has said that it will also use Tesla’s NACS connection. According to the charging network, the new plugs will begin to be installed at its locations beginning in the year 2025. Additionally, it will continue to produce additional types of plugs.
