• Volkswagen has shown off a model of the updated 2025 Golf R sports hatchback.
  • Even though it still has camouflage, we can see that it has some of the same changes as the new Golf GTI.
  • Like its sister, the newest model will no longer come with a manual drive.

Volkswagen has updated all of its Golf hatchbacks, so we can now take a first look at the 2025 Golf R, which will be shown off at the same time as the 2025 Golf GTI. VW said that the all-wheel-drive Golf R will officially come out in the middle of 2024. They showed off a disguised prototype at an ice race in Austria.

Here's a sneak peek at the 2025 Volkswagen Golf R, which will get updates like the GTI

The Golf R still has its own unique front bumper and body kit that make it look not very nice, but its light camouflage lets it share the GTI’s new headlights and taillights. The wheels are noticeably bigger, and the exhaust tips are huge. There is also a rear spoiler and big blue brake calipers. It will have the same changes as the GTI, like a new touchscreen system and buttons on the steering wheel instead of touch-sensitive ones, but we haven’t seen any pictures of the inside yet.

VW increased the GTI’s power, so the Golf R’s 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine, which already makes 315 horsepower, is expected to make even more. As a result, the six-speed manual gearbox will not be available since VW said it would stop making them after the 2024 model year. The only choice left is the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that comes standard with all-wheel drive. In the United States, the new Golf R should come out later this year. Stay tuned for more details.
