• Honda has shown off a brand-new concept car called the Prelude.
  • The Prelude, a two-door car, is almost ready for production.
  • We are still determining what kind of engine it has, but we know it’s a hybrid, which we hope to see soon.

Both the Prelude and the Integra are back. Honda has brought back an interesting name from the past, this time for a concept car with a fast hybrid motor. The Tokyo Motor Show was the first time the Prelude concept car was shown. It is meant to give people a sneak peek at future “electrified” Honda cars, especially sports cars that focus on speed and driver involvement.

Honda's Prelude is back as a sporty coupe with electric power

We know little about the Prelude’s hybrid engine or platform, but it might be based on the Civic or Accord. The Accord hybrid has 204 horsepower, but this car’s hybrid system should have more power. It may use a similar mix with a more robust fuel engine. We regret that we don’t think any of Honda’s new hybrid cars will have a manual transmission, not even a simulated one. The company’s CEO said they were not considering this option and would use other performance metrics to give their upcoming electric cars exciting dynamics.

The idea behind the Prelude comes from how you might imagine a car from the 1980s or 1990s looking today. Instead of being very low to the ground, it is a better Accord coupe, which was also taken off the market a few generations ago. This means that Honda will make a real two-door car again. Since the S2000, the company has yet to make a coupe or even a genuine sports car, and the two-door Civic and Accord models were taken off the market.

Even though it is given as an idea, the Prelude has no particularly creative parts that would need to be changed before it could be performed. We hope Honda puts this car on the market soon. The company is working on two electric sports cars. One of them could be like the Acura NSX in some ways. We can’t wait to learn more about the future and how Prelude will come back to life.
