Hyundai says it will release its first electric SUV with three rows of seats later this year. Since they are built on the same E-GMP platform as the three-row Kia EV9, their batteries and powertrains should be the same. Hyundai is still working on its family-sized electric car, but the Ioniq 7 and Ioniq 9 are already in the lead. Since Hyundai showed off the idea of Ioniq 7 a few years ago, we’ve been waiting for them to make the real thing. We have yet to determine what the street-legal and stage-legal versions will be called, but we do know that Hyundai’s first three-row electric SUV will be shown off later this year. Ioniq 7, 9, or something else? Hyundai did not say anything else about its upcoming family-sized EV besides the date it would be released. It will likely be built on the same E-GMP base as the company’s other electric cars and corporate rivals, like the three-row Kia EV9. The most powerful EV9 currently has up to 379 horsepower and a battery capacity of up to 99.8 kWh. This gives you an idea of what its engine and battery could be like. The Ioniq 7 concept, which made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2021, gives us a sneak peek at how the production model will look. This is because Hyundai’s most recent concepts have stayed true to style. Also, Hyundai’s top designers have already told us what they think the final shape will look like. Two features that should be included in the production model are the pixel lighting and the flat hood emblem. The mostly glass back hatch and lounge-like interior will be swapped out for a more standard look, though. What will Hyundai’s electric car with three rows of seats be called? It’s still a puzzle. It makes sense to expect the Ioniq 7, but reports say it will be the Ioniq 9. It might have a name that is very different from this one. In any case, we’ll find out more as the release date gets closer.
