For 2024, VW is changing the inside of the ID.4 and adding new electric motors. The base model with rear-wheel drive now has 282 horsepower, and the model with all-wheel drive has 330. The prices for the new types won’t be set until early 2024, but you’ll be able to buy them then. Volkswagen is making its electric SUV better for 2024 by adding more powerful electric motors. For the 2017 model year, the single-motor system that drives the rear wheels and the dual-motor system that goes all four wheels get much more power. This only works for ID.4s with the bigger 77.0-kWh battery pack, not the smaller 58.0-kWh battery pack. The interior has been changed, and new wheels have been put on. Different trim levels also have unique features. The new 77.0-kWh RWD ID.4 has 282 horsepower, up from the previous generation’s 201 horsepower. When we drove a 2021 ID.4, it took 7.6 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. This could make the car much faster. The dual-motor AWD ID.4 goes from 295 horsepower to 330 horsepower. In our tests, this model sprinted in 5.4 seconds and will probably get more quickly. Volkswagen thinks that the new electric motor will increase range, even though no recent estimates from the EPA exist. With the bigger battery pack, it is now approved to go between 255 and 275 miles, so we should see minor improvements when the official ratings come out. Other changes include a bigger infotainment screen for higher trim levels. The new 12.9-inch screen is more significant than the old 12-inch screen and is said to have better menus and more accessible climate settings. The look of the shifter and the steering wheel has also changed. The S Plus trim now comes with a Harman/Kardon sound system and front seats that can be cooled. The S Plus now has 21-inch wheels instead of the 19-inch wheels it had before. (VW hasn’t shared photos of the outside of the 2024 ID.4, but at the top, you can see a Euro-spec version with 21-inch wheels.) The 2024 ID.4 will arrive at stores early in the following year.
