Next year, Nissan will add a plug-in hybrid drivetrain to its Rogue small SUV. The new powertrain will likely come out in 2025 for the 2026 model year. From 2026 on, Nissan plans to bring its e-Power hybrid drivetrains to the United States. Nissan will release a plug-in hybrid version of the Rogue small SUV next year. This is the company’s first hybrid car. The Nissan Rogue PHEV will be the company’s first plug-in hybrid in the US and will go on sale in 2025. The Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will share parts because they are both crossovers that are built on the same platform. The partnership includes Nissan, Mitsubishi, and the French car company Renault. The Outlander has a 2.4-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors that make a total of 248 horsepower, so the Rogue PHEV’s drivetrain will likely be the same. So, the plug-in hybrid Rogue will have more power than the gas-only model, which has a 201-horsepower three-cylinder turbocharged engine. The EPA says the Outlander can go 28 miles on electricity alone, but in our test, it only went 24 miles on the highway at 75 mph. Many cars, like the Dodge Hornet, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Toyota RAV4, already have PHEV versions. The Rogue hybrid will join those cars in the growing market for compact SUV hybrids. e-Power Hybrids are Expected to Launch in 2026 This year 2026, Nissan plans to bring its hybrid e-Power series technology to the United States. For years, Nissan has talked about bringing these drivetrains to the US. They are already available in many Nissan models around the world. The e-Power system has electric motors that move the wheels, and the gasoline engine charges the battery. It’s unclear which models will use the e-Power system, but the new 2025 Murano and the smaller Kicks and Rogue SUVs look like they have a good chance. We will share more about Nissan’s plans for hybrid cars as we learn more about the new gas-electric cars that will be on the market in the next few years.
