Honda said it will start selling a new electric car in North America in 2025. The 2024 Prologue used GM’s EV platform, but this car will use Honda’s own EV design. It’s called a “mid- to large-size” car, but no one knows what it looks like or its name. Even though the Japanese company now works with GM to bring its new electric SUV to market, it is also building its own EV platforms. GM’s Ultium battery technology powers the 2024 Prologue. Still, Honda just revealed that it will bring a second electric vehicle to North America in 2025 powered by its platform. It is a “mid-to-large-size” electric vehicle (EV) that will be built on Honda’s new e: Architecture electric base. This EV is likely an SUV, a three-row crossover that will sit above the Prologue with two rows and five seats. Even though Honda hasn’t shown any pictures or drawings of this car, the picture above is of one of the Chinese EV concepts from the company’s e: N line made for that market. Even though this e: N SUV design and other Honda EVs for the Chinese market use a different platform called e: N Architecture W, some parts may be the same. Even though the new vehicle built on e: Architecture is only for the North American market, Honda may decide to share its EV design language with the rest of the world. This new Honda car will be sold along with the Prologue and the ZDX, the ZDX’s sister car from Acura. Since Honda and GM have already said they will work together on a “new series” of electric compact SUVs that will be sold in the U.S. starting in 2027, their partnership won’t be a one-time thing. Honda also said it would put out two electric sports cars, but the delivery date still needs to be given. In any case, Honda is stepping up its plans for electric cars. Honda wants to sell 40% of electric vehicles in North America by 2030, 80% by 2035, and 100% by 2040.
