The Toyota Land Cruiser SUV will soon be sold again in the U.S. The new model will be like the Lexus GX 2024, which just came out. The following Land Cruiser is scheduled to be shown to the public in 2024. In the car business, bringing back a well-known but long-dead name is not unusual. Two such cars are the Bronco and the Integra. On the other hand, Toyota isn’t letting the Land Cruiser name be sad. The legendary SUV will no longer be made in the U.S. after the 2021 model year, but the company has already said that the Land Cruiser will soon be back on our golden waves of grain. But the soon-to-be-released model will differ significantly from the last one sold in our country. So far, the only public news is that Toyota plans to return the Land Cruiser brand to the U.S. market. But it’s unlikely that we’ll get the same 300-series L.C. as other places. The Lexus LX will continue to be the “giant luxury off-roader” because it has the same body-on-frame TNGA-F underpinnings as the 300-series Land Cruiser and the most recent Tundra and Sequoia models. The Land Cruiser is about the same size, so it wouldn’t make sense to add it to the mix. The Sequoia is already a big, three-row Toyota SUV with off-road features. From our point of view, the new Land Cruiser will be based on the 2024 Lexus GX. So, the Land Cruiser in the U.S. would be a little bit smaller, making it better able to cross rough territory. In the past, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was the better half of the Lexus GX. It was a smaller version of the L.C. that never came to the U.S., at least not as a Toyota. Automotive News says that Toyota might remove the “Prado” part of the logo and send the car to the U.S. under “Land Cruiser.” The Prado report is the primary source of inspiration for our design (top), which has a front end that reminds us of the Compact Cruiser E.V. concept, which was revealed in 2021 and looked surprisingly like the 300-series Land Cruiser. In terms of how it looks, it takes a lot from the new G.X. (We also like the idea of a new small off-roader like the F.J., but for now, let’s keep things simple.) Toyota: If you choose the G.X., you’ll probably be unhappy because the Lexus has more basic features while the Land Cruiser’s lower trim levels make sense to have less. This would mean that the starting price would be lower. On the other hand, the Land Cruiser TRD Pro grade level would have the big tires and locking differentials of the GX Overtrail trim. It’s also possible that the new Land Cruiser Prado will use the G.X.’s drivetrains if it ever comes to these lands. Then a hybrid version with a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine could make the same 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque as the Lexus. The new 4Runner will likely have the same turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four engine as the new Tacoma. The new place of the Land Cruiser could have some interesting effects on the 4Runner, a mid-size car. If the next Land Cruiser shrinks to the size of the G.X., the 4Runner might change into something that can better compete with the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. The G.X. and maybe the next Land Cruiser will have a third row of seats, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the upcoming 4Runner doesn’t have a third row of seats. There is still a lot of time to think about what might happen. Toyota doesn’t plan to make a version of the Land Cruiser Prado that is made for the U.S. market until 2024 when the AN story says the update will come out. But the Land Cruiser is about to go through some significant changes that could also affect other models in Toyota’s range.
