In its most recent Super Bowl ad, Toyota calls the 2024 Tacoma “the most powerful Tacoma ever.” That only works for the top-of-the-line, four-cylinder hybrid Tacoma engine. All Tacomas have a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, but the power it can produce depends on the trim level. Some football fans think the real action starts on Super Bowl Sunday when the game is stopped and the famous ads take the stage. This year, the speaker for Toyota’s Super Bowl ad calls the car “the most powerful Tacoma ever,” but we thought it might be helpful to explain what that means. First, a little background: The long-lastingly popular Tacoma will finally get a full makeover in 2024 after a long wait. The next-generation Tacoma will have better engines, more modern comforts, and more trim levels to choose from. Along with the Tundra, it now uses the TNGA-F base. There is a 2.4-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine in every new Tacoma. The output of the engine changes from model to model. The SR trim level comes with the base engine, which makes 228 horsepower. The 2.4-liter engine can make 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque when paired with the six-speed manual transmission that comes with the TRD Sport trim. Any other model level has a four-cylinder engine that pairs with an eight-speed automatic gear to make 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. This engine has the same number of horsepower as the 3.5-liter V-6 engine from the last model. Hybrid Power Car We’ve already talked about all the Tacomas that aren’t “the most powerful Tacoma ever,” so you may be asking what is. That honor goes to the Tacoma Hybrid, which has 326 horsepower but has yet to be on the market. There is still a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine in Toyota’s latest powertrain, which is called iForce Max. There is, however, an electric motor between the engine and the drive. Another small battery is hidden under the back seat. It’s made of nickel metal hydride. We’re still waiting for Toyota to say how much the hybrid Tacoma will cost. The Tacoma Hybrid will likely cost about the same as the Tundra Hybrid. The Tundra Hybrid’s hybrid drivetrain costs between $3,930 and $5,770 extra, based on the trim level. Beginning with the TRD Sport trim level, the Tacoma will have the iForce Max option. The base price for the non-hybrid Tacoma TRD Sport is $40,895. This means that the base price for the Tacoma Hybrid will be around $43,000, and the most expensive one, the TRD Pro Hybrid, will be around $65,000.
