• When Mercedes-AMG showed off the PureSpeed concept, car fans got a first look at the first car in the brand’s planned Mythos line of very rare cars.
  • PureSpeed is about outdoor driving. A Formula 1-style halo bar replaces the roof, windshield, and side windows.
  • The PureSpeed gets its style from the AMG One hypercar and the 300 SL. There will only be 250 of them made in the whole world.

Before the Monaco Grand Prix on May 26, Mercedes-AMG showed off the PureSpeed concept car. It is the first car in the Mercedes Mythos line, which is very rare. The PureSpeed is a two-seat racer made to be driven outside. It doesn’t have a roof, windshield, or side windows because the halo bar, which looks like something from Formula One, is more important.

In Formula One, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed Concept with Halo is an SL

Even though Mercedes hasn’t said so directly, the PureSpeed is definitely their SL-class convertible without a roof and windshield. The idea uses the regular SL’s headlights and taillights, as well as its bodywork.

The concept’s shape was also influenced by famous motorsport figures that have been linked to the brand in the past. The flying buttresses behind the seats were based on the 300 SLR, which Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson drove to win in the 1955 Mille Miglia. The AMG One hypercar also influenced other parts of the car’s design, like the carbon-fiber wheel covers that make it more efficient and help keep the brakes cool.

The car’s paint job changes from red in the front to black and graphite gray in the back. Mercedes drew inspiration from the 1924 Targa Florio event in Sicily, when the firm painted their cars red to deter fans in the way of the race.

While Mercedes hasn’t said what kind of engine or output the PureSpeed will have, it seems likely that the limited edition car will have either the SL63’s amazing 805-hp hybrid system or its 577-hp twin-turbocharged V8. AMG’s head, Michael Schiebe, said, “As the idea for our first Mythos vehicle, it represents the highest level of exclusivity.”

Even if you have the cash, it will be hard to get a PureSpeed because the price has yet to be made. This is because Mercedes has decided only to make 250 of the new Mythos series cars around the world. Mercedes will even give you a set of caps that are “aerodynamically optimized” if you’re lucky enough to buy one. Okay.
