• For the first time, the 2025 BMW Z4 will come with a manual gearbox.
  • It will only be offered on M40i models with six cylinders, and it’s part of a bigger performance package.
  • The gearbox is the same as the Toyota GR Supra, even though the linkages and bushings have been fine-tuned.

The 2025 BMW Z4 has a manual gearbox again after a long break. A year ago, Toyota made the change after people complained and said they would give a six-speed manual transmission as an option for the similarly priced GR Supra starting with the 2023 model year.

In the end, the 2025 BMW Z4 will have a manual transmission

BMW says that the joints and bushings are tuned differently in each Supra, but the transmission is the same in both. In what other ways are the Z4 and Supra alike? Only the BMW M40i, which has a 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine, will be able to use the manual. Were you hoping to get the normal turbo-four with three pedals? You missed your chance.

The transmission will come in a bigger package with more choices. There are times when a three-pedal setup is free, but the Z4 costs $3500. This is because BMW thinks that if you want a manual, you need a faster Z4.

The kit comes with the M differential that all M40i Z4s come with and is controlled electrically. Additionally, the adaptive dampers have been made better to allow for more aggressive driving, and the steering has been changed to give the driver more input. The manual version has 20-inch wheels in the back and 19-inch wheels in the front. The wheels are stripped. BMW says that there will not be a limited number of manual Z4s. The maker wants to make as many as the market will allow. BMW plans to start making the first Z4 cars with manual transmission in the first quarter of 2024.
