• Ford is making some changes to the 2024 Mustang Mach-E. One of these is adding a new motor to the back, which will help the car go up to 320 miles.
  • The Mustang Mach-E also charges faster than older models; the standard-range battery goes from 10% charged to 80% charged in 32 minutes.
  • Ford no longer makes the GT Performance model. Instead, the GT model can be changed to make 100 lb-ft of power.

The 2024 model year will bring a lot of changes to the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which has been on the market since the 2021 model year. Along with the eye-catching new Rally model with aero wheels and a big rear wing, Ford showed off a new back motor, faster DC fast-charging, and an updated GT model.

It takes less time to charge the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, and it has a longer range

More miles and faster charging

The biggest change to the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is a new rear motor that makes the range longer and is offered on all models. Ford claims that the newly designed and built unit is lighter than the old one and “helps to deliver improved torque.”

The Select type, with a standard-range battery and a single motor for rear-wheel drive, is said to have a range of 250 miles. The EPA says that the Premium model with the extended-range battery will go 320 miles. Ford thinks that these numbers are 20 miles more than the Mach-E model year of 2021. But for 2023, changes to the standard-range battery chemistry had already increased the range of the standard-battery RWD model to 250 miles. The extended-range RWD models were also expected to hit 310 miles.

For the whole Mach-E line, Ford has also cut down on charge times. Ford says that cars with extended-range batteries will now reach 80% in less than 36 minutes, down from 36 minutes for cars with 10 percent batteries. It now takes just over 32 minutes to charge a car with a standard-range battery from 10 percent to 80%, which is about six minutes less time than before. Owners of the Mustang Mach-E can now use the Tesla Supercharger network. To fill their SUVs with CCS connections using Tesla’s NACS chargers, they will need an adaptor.

Updated the GT lineup

The Mach-E’s high-performance trim used to come in two different styles: GT Performance and plain GT. In 2024, Ford will no longer sell the GT Performance as a separate model. Instead, they will offer a Performance Upgrade package that adds 100 pound-feet of power. The old GT Performance model didn’t add much more power than the regular GT—just 34 pound-feet. Ford says that the upgraded package lets the fastest Mustang Mach-E go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and complete a quarter-mile run at 114 mph in 11.8 seconds.

Ford says the Performance Upgrade has “innovative powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms” that keep the two-motor powertrain working at its best. The kit comes with the off-road-focused Rally version, but Mach-E GT owners can add it later or when they buy the car.

Ford has made magnetorheological dampers, Brembo front brake rotors, and Ford Performance front seats standard equipment on the GT and removed the GT Performance option. Since a rear motor was added to the series, the Mach-E GT now has an extra 10 miles of range on a full charge, for a total of 280 miles, according to the EPA. The Rally will have a range of 265 miles when it first comes out.

Every detail

Ford also changes the 15.5-inch touchscreen in the middle, adding new button icons to make it easier to access important data. Ford said that putting everything on one page in the settings page was made because people “didn’t like to scroll.” Not with a cord. Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving aid technology is standard on all Mach-E models, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still standard across the whole lineup.

The 2024 Mustang Mach-E starts at $41,890 for the Select trim level, which has rear-wheel drive and a standard-sized battery. The GT model costs $55,890, but the engine in the Premium trim starts at $45,890. The Performance Upgrade costs $995, and the Rally type costs $61,890.
