Jeep is making plug-in hybrid versions of the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer, which are both full-size SUVs. The eagerly anticipated new Cherokee compact SUV, originally slated for a 2023 release but delayed, is now set to make its debut, marking a significant milestone for Jeep enthusiasts. Jeep’s hybrid cars are set to hit the market in 2025, with the new Cherokee likely to follow suit shortly after, offering potential buyers a clear timeline to look forward to. Following the release of the new 2024 Wagoneer S EV, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa said that the company is working on a number of new models that will be made in the next year. One of them is a plug-in hybrid 4xe version of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. Another is a new generation of the Cherokee small SUV, which was stopped with the 2023 model year. The new Cherokee is on its way According to Filosa, there will soon be a new “mainstream” D-segment SUV, and we “could probably guess what it will be called.” From our point of view, this can only mean one thing: a replacement for the Jeep Cherokee, which used to be the company’s best-selling car but is no longer in production. Because of this, the Compass is Jeep’s major rival in the popular compact SUV market. Jeep didn’t want to share pictures or information about the next Cherokee, but it will be bigger than the Compass and come in the off-road Trailhawk grade level. 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Cars Next year, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, two full-size SUVs made by Jeep, will come as 4xe plug-in hybrids. Filosa called these models’ engine combinations “range-extender” systems, which makes us think that the 2025 Ramcharger plug-in hybrid truck will have the same setup. Electric motors, the Ramcharger’s 3.6-liter V-6 engine, and the big battery pack should work with the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. This is because they share a body-on-frame chassis with the Ram 1500 pickup truck. Jeep is set to introduce three hybrid models: the Grand Cherokee 4xe, the Wrangler 4xe, and the Wagoneer 4xe. These will stand out as some of the few full-size SUVs available as plug-in hybrids, a unique offering in the market. Currently, only the Range Rover and the BMW XM offer upscale SUVs as PHEVs. In the full-size SUV market, the Wagoneer’s main competitors lack plug-in options, with the Toyota Sequoia being the only hybrid.
