• Jeep is recalling 32,125 Wrangler 4xe vehicles from 2021 to 2024 because they pose a fire risk. This comes after eight car fires were found.
  • While the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wranglers were being charged, six of the fires are said to have started. However, all of the cars were stopped and turned off at the time.
  • Jeep says that the affected Wrangler 4xe units will need either a firmware update or a new battery pack.

People who own a 2021–2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe might need to be careful about a fire in their off-road vehicle. Stellantis, which is the parent company of Jeep, said last week that an internal investigation that started with a normal review of customer data had found eight car fires. Because of this, 32,125 cars in the US were called back.

Jeep Recalls 32,125 Wrangler 4xe Models over Potential Fire Risk

The company looked into what happened and found that six of the eight-car fires happened when the plug-in hybrid Wranglers were plugged into chargers. Even though flames were going on, every car was stopped and turned off. Stellantis said that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries that the fires have caused.

One type of Wrangler 4xe is only affected by this recall. These cars have a plug-in hybrid engine and a 14.0-kWh lithium-ion battery hidden under the back seats. Stellantis says that the problem only happened in 1% of the cars they made and that the only way to fix it is to replace the whole battery pack or flash the software.

Stellantis says that 9 294 models outside of North America and 38 56 models in Canada are also affected. Owners of recalled cars will be told when it’s time to book a service.
