• Jeep showed off a concept Wagoneer S EV that was dressed up in Trailhawk off-road gear.
  • It comes with a lot of tough fittings, tires with knobs, and more ground clearance.
  • The Trailhawk type will soon be made available.

Even the biggest Jeep fans wouldn’t call the company’s first battery-electric SUV a real Jeep until it has big tires, which is what Jeep is getting ready to do with the new 2024 Wagoneer S. Fans of the Wagoneer S Trailhawk should be able to see that this electric vehicle can still do things that a Jeep would do, at least in idea form. This idea might come true sooner rather than later, which will be familiar to us.

Jeep lifted and toughened up the new Wagoneer S based on the Trailhawk idea

The idea was shown off in New York at the same time as the Launch Edition car, which is now ready for production. The Trailhawk had Falken Wildpeak AT3W all-terrain tires that were 31.5 inches tall and 18-inch multi-piece wheels with an outer ring held on by visible hex bolts. Bridge trusses can be seen in the wheel rings, orange tow hooks, laser-cut metal roof racks, and even fog light designs.

The Jeep logo has been moved to the hood and is now a sticker there. The seven-slot grille has a rougher pattern and is lit from above each slot. However, Jeep still needs to confirm whether the Trailhawk’s 600-horsepower dual-motor system is the same as the regular Wagoneer S. In “high-speed conditions,” extra cutouts in the front fenders smooth the air. Jeep says it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds in the launch trim.

The Wagoneer S has a locked rear axle and a Rock mode for the Selec-Terrain drive mode system, the same as other Jeep Trailhawk models that run on gas. The Jeep has three inches more ground clearance than the regular model, as well as better approach and departure angles, fording depths, and other important things to brag about. Still, we think this high-end EV won’t be as exciting as the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe plug-in hybrid.

Ralph Gilles, Stellantis’ head of design, said that the electric Trailhawk’s grab handle on the passenger side has been called a “holy shit bar.” There are also map pockets with straps that can be taken off and an open center console with extra straps that “make the whole vehicle interior like a backpack.” The Trailhawk also has the first-ever green interior for a Jeep. The doors and dashboard are covered in stone veneer (Gilles says the design team “banned wood for this car”), and the seats are made of new plastic that looks a lot like leather.

It’s still too early for Jeep to call the Trailhawk an electric-only car. Previous to New York, Jeep gave up on its plan to only sell the Wagoneer S as an electric vehicle. The company said that its customers will have “freedom of choice” and “multi-energy options,” which is likely code for the inline-six engine from the Dodge Charger, which will be available in both gas and electric versions. In the same way, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk could be looked at. No matter the power source, we can’t wait to get one dirty.
