• Lexus is crafting the LBX Morizo RR with a distinct design that is exclusively for the discerning Japanese market, adding a touch of exclusivity to this model.
  • Engine from the GR Corolla with 300 horsepower and three cylinders that are turbocharged powers all four wheels of the Morizo RR.
  • The concept car only had an eight-speed automatic gearbox, but the real car had a six-speed stick shift as well.

When Lexus showed off the LBX Morizo RR concept at the Tokyo Auto Show in January, we were interested in the small crossover because it looked hotter than the company’s other models. The Morizo RR idea and the interesting Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch both had a 300-hp turbocharged three-cylinder engine in addition to their beautiful looks. Lexus has chosen to make the Morizo RR, but like the LBX crossovers, it will only be sold in Japan. This means that American fans will not be able to buy one.

Lexus LBX Morizo RR, with 300 horsepower, has six-speed manual transmission

The Morizo RR, which is named after Akio Toyoda’s race name, is now being made. Most things have stayed the same from the original design. A turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine from the hatchback powers the GR Corolla. There was only an eight-speed automatic transmission in the concept car, but the actual model will also have a six-speed manual transmission like the one in the sporty Corolla. The 300 horsepower from the engine is sent to all four wheels by a full-time all-wheel-drive system that is controlled electronically.

The wide, squat stance of the production Morizo RR is a great match for the idea. The front bumper looks scarier with its big black air vents and bigger grille opening. Instead of being black plastic like on the first LBX, the wheel rims are now painted to match the body. On the back lip, you can see two exhaust points. The LBX Morizo RR also comes with beautiful forging 19-inch wheels.

Inside the Morizo RR, there are sports seats, red stitching, and aluminum wheels. Lexus will also sell 100 LBX Morizo RRs as part of its “Bespoke Build” program, which lets customers make their cars more unique. There will be a range of interior colors, seat materials, seatbelt colors, and stitching, as well as bright yellow brake calipers. In Japan, people can now place orders for the RR, and the Bespoke Build cars will be given out by drawing.
