• The first electrified Cadillac Escalade will sell for $130,000 in the summer of 2024.
  • This Escalade is a “clean-sheet design,” not based on the Tahoe or Suburban.
  • Back-wheel steering, 24-inch wheels, and 55-inch tablets are standard.

Is the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ not special?

The first all-electric Escalade warrants the upgrade. Electric automobiles like the Lyriq and Celestiq have “IQ” added to their names. Glad it wasn’t “Escalade.”

The italic L-shaped pattern on the D-pillar and its front and back light up as you get close, giving the Escalade IQ the same look as its predecessors.

The IQ is an Escalade, so it’s not subtle. It will have over 750 horsepower, 450 miles of range, and a $130,000 price tag when it sells in the summer of 2024.

Platform Dimensions

The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban-based design frees the Escalade from its previous limitations. The IQ is made like the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV. GM’s 24-module Ultium battery pack is underneath, with a valuable capacity of over 200 kWh and the potential to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes at a fully working DC fast charger. Most people charge their devices at home. Therefore, the IQ’s 19.2 kW AC is functional. This increases the range by 37 miles per hour.

IQ can change.

The Escalade ESV has a shorter wheelbase (136.2 inches) than the IQ (224.3 inches). 85.3 inches larger. Due to size expansion, 24-inch wheels look small.

These wheels match the 2019 Silverado EV RST. The 2019 Silverado EV RST has 35-inch 275/50 tires. MagneRide dampers and air springs adjust the IQ by an inch or two.

The IQ’s rear-wheel steering gives it a turning diameter of 39.4 feet instead of 39.7 feet, despite their similar sizes. Long-wheelbase ESVs can turn 43.3 feet.

Hummer EV also inspired Crabwalk. It pushes a car horizontally by spinning the front and back wheels. Cadillac Arrival Mode aims to impress the valet.

Power and speed

“Velocity Max” generates 750 hp and 785 lb-ft. Cadillac representatives claim the electricity stays on until you switch modes or turn the key off. Other automakers only run at maximum capacity for a limited time. Normal driving mode produces 680 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque.

Cadillac claims the Velocity Max can reach 60 mph in under five seconds using both front and rear motors. We don’t expect the IQ to be much faster than the Escalade V, which weighs 6290 pounds. We assume it will cost between the 866-pound SUV and the 9640-pound GMC Hummer truck, but Cadillac executives wouldn’t tell.

IQ can pull 8,000 pounds. Towing an EV is perilous, as we discovered throughout our testing. Therefore, we recommend knowing more.

The inside

A six-figure Escalade needs interior style. A 35-inch driver and 25-inch passenger display make up the 55-inch vertical display. Polarised passenger side screens split. This prevents distractions while driving.

Even though the version we saw wasn’t operating, the screen and Google Built-In worked well. It’s a shame Apple CarPlay isn’t allowed.

No real switches are disappointing. Screens are stacked. This 11-inch touchscreen controls interior lighting, five-zone climate settings, and automatic doors if equipped. When you approach, this technology opens the driver’s door. A radar in the door reduces the chance of hitting another car or the garage wall.

All Escalade IQ versions will have power-adjustable, 60/40-split third-row seats and second-row captain’s chairs. An optional Executive Second Row adds a storage-filled rear centre desk, 12.6-inch rear headrest monitors with HDMI connectors, and captain’s seats that heat, calm, and massage the driver and front passenger. Tray tables can be stored. Thus, AKG has 40 speakers.

Big windshields enable you to reach the back of the second row. To reduce heat transfer, a shade must be purchased for tinted glass with UV-filtering film. We recommend it.

Science, Storage

The IQ’s lack of a motor or drive makes it better than other EVs. Cadillac’s “trunk” front storage compartment is almost 12 cubic feet. For convenient access, choose a sliding accessory tray. A large storage compartment under the centre panel replaces the transmission tunnel.

Other Cadillac features include hands-free driving with Super Cruise, an extensive exterior camera system, a parallel parking assist feature, and an alphanumeric code on the back (“1000E4”) that rounds a vehicle’s torque from pound-feet to Newton metres to the nearest 100. “4” indicates the number of powered wheels, and “E” means “electric.” Cadillac-Arrival-Mode will impress the valet.
