Over-the-air (OTA) software changes can make the Mercedes-Benz EQE350 and EQS450 faster and give them more power. The EQE350 and EQS450 add 60 and 80 horsepower, respectively, and claim to go from 0 to 60 mph in 0.8 to 1.0 seconds. They are available as sedans and SUVs. The EQE and EQS each have a one-time fee of $1950 and $2950, while monthly and annual contracts cost $60 and $600 and $90 and $900, respectively. Even though many people are used to paying a monthly or annual fee for a streaming service or a gym membership, most customers receive better performance from their cars. As we wrote last November, Mercedes is making this possible with a new over-the-air (OTA) software update. We now know how much the company will charge users and what choices they will have. So, how does it work? This part is called “Acceleration Increase,” You can get to it through Mercedes-Benz Connect services. It will first be offered on the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQE350 and EQS450 cars and SUVs. The dual-motor EQS450 model has 355 horsepower, while the dual-motor EQE350 models have 288 horsepower. When the OTA power boost is turned on, the EQS gets 80 more horsepower, up to 435, and the EQE gets 60 more horsepower, up to 348. Mercedes says that the increased power will also make each car faster, from 0 to 60 mph. The sedan and SUV versions of the EQE350 are projected to reach 60 mph in 5.1 and 5.2 seconds, which is 0.9 to 1.0 seconds faster than the current models. The EQS450 sedan and SUV should hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and 4.9 seconds for the SUV. This is 0.8 to 0.9 seconds faster than the current models. How much does it cost? How much would people have to pay for this new boost in performance? It can be bought for $60 a month or $600 a year for the EQE350 types. It can be purchased for $90 a month or $900 a year for the EQS450 units. Most importantly, Mercedes will let buyers pay a one-time fee instead of annoying fees that keep coming up. An EQE costs $1950, while an EQS costs $2950.
