• The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-class has better handling, which makes way for the electric model in the future.
  • The G63 with AMG tuning keeps its 577-hp V-8 engine but switches to a 48-volt hybrid system. The G550, on the other hand, gets a new 443-hp turbo six engine instead of its old 416-hp V-8.
  • In 2025, both versions of the G-Wagen will have more off-road technology, appealing features, and ways to customize them.

For the 2025 model year, Mercedes-Benz is making changes to the G-class that focus on making it more efficient. Don’t worry—the G hasn’t changed into a blob-like crossing. It has a boxy shape that reminds me of the first Gelandewagen, which came out in 1979.

Mercedes-Benz G550 2025 trades in its V-8 engine for a turbo six, which makes more horsepower but less speed

The G-class has undergone some small changes to its appearance. It now has a new grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, reshaped A-pillars, and a small spoiler on the front part of the roof. These changes affect both the G63 tuned by AMG and the G550 made by Benz. Even better, they will likely be used in an upcoming electric G-class car.

G-Wagens buy a 48V combination device

Both G-class cars have the new 48-volt hybrid technology and a more aerodynamic body. The G550’s 4.16-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine has been swapped out for a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine that makes 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the old engine, this gives it 27 more horsepower but 37 fewer pound-feet of torque. The 48-volt system is paired with the G63’s twin-turbo V-8 engine, which still makes 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.

The G63 now has a suspension system that can be changed. Using hydraulic dampers and anti-roll bars, AMG Active Ride Control keeps the body from rolling around sharp turns. Mercedes says that the ride comfort is better because it softens up during regular driving. This system is included in the AMG Offroad Package Pro. The better suspension is meant to improve wheel movement on rough ground.

AMG Tracking Pro and AMG Active Balance Control are two extra driving modes that come with the AMG Offroad Package Pro. The second one has a hydraulic suspension system that lets the driver change the roll stiffness on the fly to improve off-road control. The first one, on the other hand, uses the G63’s braking system and locking differential to improve grip.

Better technology everywhere

Inside both G-wagens, more off-road technology has been added, such as a unique set of gauges that can be viewed through the infotainment system and show the vehicle’s position, altitude, and steering angle. Thanks to a better 360-degree camera system, you can see what’s under the G-class. Mercedes’ “Transparent Hood” lets the driver see more of the ground directly below the SUV.

The updated G-class cars from Mercedes have many extra comfort and ease features inside. These cars are made to be used in more suburban areas. The G550 and G63 have Mercedes’ MBUX entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A wireless charging pad and climate-controlled cupholders in the front are now standard, and an updated entertainment system for the back seats is an option. The second option has two 11.6-inch touchscreens placed on the front seatbacks, which let people in the back watch movies, browse the Internet, and control the SUV’s sound system.

Also, tools that help drivers have been improved for 2025. The G-class is the first car to have adaptive speed control with lane-centering features. When paired with the navigation system, the technology can change the car’s speed in response to turns or highway exit roads.

All types now come with Burmester surround-sound stereo and passive entry. A dashcam is also on the list of options, and Mercedes has increased the number of customization choices through its Manufaktur service. To help buyers make their G-class their own, the manufacturer offers a range of unique paint colors, interior trims, upholstery choices, and rear wheel covers.

The updated G will soon start being made. Mercedes says that the G550 and G63 will be sold in the United States in the second half of this year. Even though the prices haven’t been released yet, we think that both versions will cost a little more. The 2025 model will be very expensive, no matter how you look at it. The 2024 G550 starts at $144,150 and the ’24 G63 at $184,150.
