• Alfa Romeo says that the Milano small SUV, which will come out in April 2024, will be the brand’s first electric car.
  • After the EV comes out, the Milano, which is expected to be based on the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600e, will also come in versions that run on gas.
  • If enough people want it, Alfa Romeo might bring the Milano to the US, where it will go up against the $36,245 Volvo EX30.

Alfa Romeo is going through a change right now. As they try to sell 5,000 cars by 2023, both the Giulia and the Stelvio are becoming less well known. This year, the Tonale, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, came out as the first step toward a fully electric range. Alfa wants to make electric cars (EVs), the only ones they will make in 2025, and only sell them after that in 2027. The Milano, a small SUV that will come out next year, will be the company’s first electric car.

Most likely, the Alfa Romeo Milano, the brand's first electric car, is stuck somewhere outside of Italy

The Milano is named after the city where Alfa Romeo was formed in 1910. It will be shown off for the first time in April 2024 in Milan, Italy, and will be delivered in September. This first version will only run on electricity, but by November, you’ll be able to buy a gas-powered model that might have a 48-volt hybrid system. This means that it will be the last new Alfa Romeo with an engine that runs on gasoline or diesel.

The Milano’s first market is Europe. According to Automotive News Europe, a decision has yet to be made about when the little ute will likely come to the US market. The CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, is said to have said that the Milano could be sold outside of Europe if there was enough demand. He also said that he believes some states will soon be interested enough in “urban small electric SUVs.” The Milano might be even smaller than the Tonale.

Tichy, Poland, will be the place where the Fiat 600e, Jeep Avenger, and Milano are made by the parent company Stellantis. Both cars come in gas and electric forms, so the Alfa Romeo will likely likely use the same powertrains. Based on Europe’s hopeful WLTP test cycle, the electric cars have a range of 250 miles and a battery capacity of 54.0 kWh.

The Jeep and Fiat are about the same size as the Milano. It will have a wheelbase of about 100 inches and a length of 160 to 164 inches. The United States has few cars in that price range, let alone EVs. The BMW i3 and the Chevy Bolt, which will be replaced with a new model in 2025, are the only other electric cars that could compete. The second one will likely hit stores early next year and cost $36,245 for the base form. In the spring of next year, find out more about the Milano.
