• The Nissan Murano is a mid-size SUV with two rows of seats. It will get a new look for the first time in ten years in 2025.
  • The biggest change is under the hood, where the V-6 and CVT have been swapped out for a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
  • The trim levels are SV, SL, and Platinum. The top model has a head-up display and massager-equipped front seats.

Nissan has worked hard over the past few years to redesign almost all of its SUVs. However, the two-row mid-size Murano has been put on hold for a while. The new 2025 Murano could not come out before now because it has yet to be updated since the 2015 model year. The new model, which goes on sale early next year, continues the fashion-forward trend of previous generations. It has many new features and major changes to the powertrain.

Nissan Gets Rid Of The CVT In The 2025 Murano, Which Makes It Look Smoother

The Murano is still in the middle, between the small Rogue and the three-row Pathfinder. It is 192.9 inches long and can seat up to five people. Its new shape is smooth and rounded, and it has some cool features, like slim headlights and daytime running lights that are built into the grille’s horizontal lines. Nissan says they hid the rear wiper and exhaust tips to make the car look smoother, and there is an LED taillight bar that goes across the whole back end.

Every Murano sold in the US has had Nissan’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine and CVT, except for the short-lived Murano hybrid. However, the newest model is different in a number of ways. The V-6 engine is replaced by Nissan’s VC-Turbo variable-compression-ratio 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 241 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque in this case. A nine-speed automatic transmission takes the place of the CVT. One can choose all-wheel drive on the SV, but it’s standard on the SL and Platinum. The base SV model comes with a standard front-wheel drive.

The 2025 Infiniti QX60 is a luxury SUV with three rows of seats. It has the same engine and transmission that let us get to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. The smaller and lighter Murano should be faster, so it will likely be about the same speed as the V-6 Murano from the last generation, which we tested in 2018 and saw go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds.

Nissan says the new engine gets 23 mpg combined in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models, so it doesn’t improve gas mileage. This is about the same as the EPA’s combined rating for the last Murano. The Crown Signia, Toyota’s entry into this market, is only available as a hybrid and gets 38 mpg on the highway.

On the SV, you’ll find a digital gauge cluster, leatherette upholstery, a power liftgate, power-adjustable heated front seats, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built-in. The SL has a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera view, and Google Built-In apps. It also has a Bose sound system. The top Platinum model is getting close to being a luxury car because it has heated rear seats, a head-up display, massaging front seats, and semi-aniline leather.

The current Murano starts at $40,130 for the front-wheel-drive SV and goes up to $49,840 for the all-wheel-drive Platinum. We think the 2025 model will start a little higher, but Nissan hasn’t said how much it will cost yet.
