• Nissan has shown off the Hyper Urban idea before being shown live at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo at the end of this month.
  • Kaleidoscopes inspired the triangular parts of the electric concept car. The car is a small, fast crossover with a sharp, angular look.
  • The inside is just as strange as the outside, with green LED accents and chairs that can be folded to make a big lounge.

Nissan has been in the electric vehicle (EV) market before. Its groundbreaking Leaf car, which came out in 2011 and had a range of only 73 miles, helped pave the way for the current flood of EVs. One is the Nissan Ariya SUV, which sold 5,195 units in the first half of this year. With the hyper-angular Hyper Urban idea, Nissan is showing us what to expect from the design of its future electric cars.

One of the ideas Nissan will show off before the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo at the end of this month is a short, sporty SUV. The company said each will have the word “hyper” in its name to “express the heightened excitement they aim to bring.” The shape of the idea was made by the designer slashing a lump of clay with a sword. This can be seen in Hyper Urban’s bodywork, full of powerful and dramatic cuts. The Hyper Urban looks even more in charge because of its big wheels, highly slanted canopy, and stocky build.

The plan follows current design trends, with full-width light bars and front and back lights made of flexible LED strips that give them an ornate look. The front and back scissor doors open dramatically to show a house with the same sharp angles as the outside. Nissan says that it has a lot of triangular shapes inspired by kaleidoscopes, green LED lights, and a steering wheel that looks like a yoke. The front seats can be folded into the back seats and crushed to make the interior roomier and more like a lounge.

Even though Nissan didn’t say the Hyper Urban is an electric vehicle. Nissan says the idea could send power back to your home, making the grid less stressed and saving money. Nissan also talked about a charging system driven by artificial intelligence that can charge the SUV independently, but it didn’t say how it would work. The Hyper Urban, on the other hand, is a pointless experiment that hints at Nissan’s following design style. The Hyper Urban’s engine specs are not necessary in the long run. Just don’t count on sliding doors to be made.
