• A new version of the WRX is coming, but it won’t be a new STI. This is terrible news for diehard WRX fans.
  • Subaru’s last “Tuner Ready” WRX TR came out in 2006. An alternative paradigm dubbed “enthusiast-focused” is currently in the works.
  • According to the company, the full reveal will happen on October 7 at Subaru’s Subiefest at the Daytona International Speedway.

Unfortunately, the much-anticipated WRX STI is not the new “enthusiast-focused” Subaru WRX sedan just revealed. The company wants to get a different historical label from 2006. The new model will be called “Tuner Ready” by the company that made it, bringing back the TR name. Even though Subaru keeps quiet for now, we can still figure out a few things from the teaser picture.

The old WRX TR was a starting model for people who wanted to change their car after buying it. It came with basic sound, a driving wheel made of plastic, and seats that didn’t change. Even the mirror caps were painted by something other than Subaru.

It seems likely that Subaru would need to make something more complex than the WRX TR in 2006. The price of the newest TR was $1000 less than the price of the regular WRX. In the teaser picture of the new model, you can see that the new wheels are hiding Brembo brakes. A pair of side skirts can also be seen in the preview.

The base price for the new 2023 WRX is $31,625, and the base price for the adult GT trim is $44,415. This new version will not be cheaper than the base WRX, but there aren’t enough details to know if Subaru is returning to the previous TR’s no-frills approach. The car will be shown off for the first time on October 7 in Daytona Beach, Florida, at the automaker’s annual Summerfest event.
