This does not continue the Hyundai and Kia fire risk recall involving dealer- or factory-installed trailer wiring. Idle Stop and Go (ISG), also known as Start-Stop Technology, is now standard in all new automobiles, but this new fire risk, which affects over 40,000 Kias and 52,000 Hyundais, is severe. The gearbox oil pump must run while the 2023-2024 Kia Seltos, Sportages, Souls ISGs, Palisades, Tucsons, Sonatas, Elantras, and Konas are stopped. The electric oil pump unit’s circuit board MLCC cracked during manufacture. This damage could damage the pump, connection, and electrical harness. Damage to the controller area network (CAN) could prevent other systems from communicating. The car won’t move if the pump fails without igniting a fire. Hyundai and Kia’s transmissions have pumps. Why? Please explain why the transmission has an electric pump and is part of the ISG, even though it’s not crucial to the plot. Both eight-speed automatics and IVT-equipped Hyundais and Kias have the pump (or a variation of it) because the torque converter and other internal transmission parts, such as clutches (on the eight-speed) and pulleys (on the IVT), need oil to engage and allow the car to drive away right after starting. IVT pulleys for the flexible steel chain that transfers engine power to the drive wheels require transmission oil. The manual IVT had “gears” after this alteration. The torque converter, clutches, and pulleys would not work if either gearbox employed a regular oil pump driven by the engine through the transmission’s input shaft. When you release the brake pedal, the car stops or rolls backward, unsafe at a stoplight with traffic behind you. Fix when? Hyundai/Kia owners will receive certified letters. Hyundai owners will receive notes on September 28, and Kia retailers on September 21. Kia will mail owners and sellers on September 25. Enter your car’s VIN into the NHTSA, Hyundai, or Kia recall VIN check to find out immediately. There is now a solution. Pumps built after March don’t have the problem. The recall remedy is accessible even if the pump breaks the harness or other parts. Hyundai and Kia owners should park outside until repairs are complete, even if your shop doesn’t have a pump.
