The Kia Seltos may have middle child syndrome because it doesn’t get as much attention as its two brothers. On the one hand, it costs more than the hipster-cool Kia Soul. On the other hand, the brand-new Kia Sportage is making an impression with its sharp, aggressive design, which will likely influence the creation of the rest of the lineup.

You might decide not to go with the Seltos for reasons other than where they are. Even though the Seltos has a lot of space for cargo and an exciting design we like, the front seats may need some work to make them more comfortable for long trips. Driving on a winding mountain road isn’t very exciting either, and even with the turbocharged engine upgrade, the car can be hard to start when it’s stopped.

Kia will change the look of the Seltos the following year, just like it did with the Sportage and Niro. There could also be an option for a hybrid powertrain. The Expert Rating below shows that the Seltos doesn’t have an excellent reputation in the extra-small SUV class. This could change a lot if the seats and suspension were also updated. The way the Seltos is driven. A top-of-the-line Seltos SX with a turbocharged engine was put to the test. From a stop, this small SUV doesn’t move very quickly, but once it’s moving, it’s swift. During tests by InvoicePricing, the Seltos went from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.1 seconds. That’s good for this class because it means you’ll be able to hit highway speeds quickly. The transmission shifts quickly and smoothly.

When the path bends, the Seltos are harder to see. Even though the quick steering and tight suspension tuning should be good, the Seltos seem too nose-heavy and need to be up to the task when driven quickly.

The Kia Seltos is comfortable enough to drive daily and go on short trips. It doesn’t look too floaty on the highway and takes most bumps in stride. The front seats are fine, but they don’t have enough thigh support or padding to make long trips genuinely comfortable. For such a small SUV, the back seats are comfortable. The temperature control system doesn’t work well enough on hot days to completely cool the cabin, and a lot of road noise gets inside.

Shelton’s interior is simple, practical, and significant. The 10.25-inch infotainment screen, which is an option, stands out because it has clear pictures and is easy to use. The settings for the single-zone climate are shown on the bottom panel, which is just as precise.

The Altos is one of the larger extra-small SUVs, which is contradictory and has enough room for most passengers. If you’re under 6 feet 2 inches tall, the Seltos should fit you well in the front and back. It is also easy to get in and out of the Altos. Because the roof pillars are so giant, it is hard to see. Keep looking around to ensure no one is coming from the right side of the street. When backing up, the wide-angle rearview camera is, without a doubt, helpful.

The Celtics have a lot of things that make it appealing. The Bose audio system, which is only on the SX grade, has clear sound and a lot of basses. It is easy to use the navigation system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are smartphone-connected systems. It is standard on all models but works best on the optional 10.25-inch infotainment screen. We found two USB ports, a 12-volt power outlet, and a wireless charging pad in the car we used for our test. People in the back will have to fight over the one USB port.

Our top-of-the-line Seltos SX had cutting-edge safety systems and driver assistance that worked as expected and didn’t get in the way too much. Adaptive Cruise Control contrasts. Keep the distance between the car and the car in front of it to a minimum.

The back compartment of the Seltos can hold a lot of things. It is one of the best in its class because it can carry up to 62.8 cubic feet of cargo. Even with the back seats folded down, there is space for 26.6 cubic feet. A large liftgate opening and enough cargo depth also make it easy to load cargo.

There is a lot of storage space inside for the people in the front seats. There are many pockets the size of water bottles, a small tray for a smartphone in front of the gear shift, a small box on the console, and a glove box. The child safety seat anchor points on the Seltos are easy to get to and marked. A safety seat that faces backward is easy to set up.

There are several engine choices for the Kia Altos. Our car had all-wheel drive, and we tested the SX, which had a turbocharged engine that made it more powerful. The EPA says this combination will get a total of 27 mpg. Even though a regular Seltos with front-wheel drive gets a more respectable 31 mpg combined, it still falls short of the class average. On our mixed-driving test route of 115 miles, we got 27.9 mpg. Overall, it will not be hard for you to match the EPA’s numbers.

The Altos is better than most cars in its class because it has many exciting features. Even though it costs a lot, the highest SX grade has a lot of extras, like a turbocharged engine. Even though the internal parts aren’t perfect, and the amount of plastic makes it feel cheap, the build quality is good.

The limited warranty and engine warranty from Kia are great. You get a powertrain warranty for ten years or 100,000 miles, and a bumper-to-bumper warranty for five years or 60,000 miles.

The Kia Seltos could look even more like a Land Rover Evoque SUV using the different roof and body paint colors. In the extra-small SUV market, it stands out without a doubt. The rest of the bundle needs more creativity. Is it helpful, though? Definitely.

The Altos EX trim has the right mix of features and price. Standard features include all-wheel drive, faux leather upholstery, heated seats, and a giant touchscreen with navigation. You could choose the S trim instead of the EX and add the touchscreen and navigation for even less money. On the other hand, the EX is a better deal because it comes with more features. If you need all-wheel drive, the price difference between the two is much smaller.
