Mercedes-Benz may include an electric shot brake, which is also known as a station wagon, in the new CLA-class cars coming to North America. In an interview with Invoice Pricing at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, the company’s chief technology officer said there was a chance it would come to the US. Once the CLA sedan goes into production, which should be in 2025, it will share the same MMA design as the wagon. Mercedes-Benz is about to release a whole new generation of its CLA-class small car, which will come with both gas and electric engine choices. Markus Schafer, the chief technology officer of the Mercedes-Benz Group, told a group of reporters at the 2024 CES technology show in Las Vegas that the CLA series would still have a hatchback/wagon body style called “shooting brake.” Because there wasn’t much desire for a station wagon version of the CLA-class Shooting Brake, it hasn’t been sold in the US for 20 years. However, this time around, things could be different. After talking to the press, Schafer told Invoice Pricing, “I’m ready to ship it.” Naturally, he stressed that the car would have to be popular with buyers in order for the brand to offer it in North America. The new design that the CLA class will be built on is called the MMA platform by Mercedes-Benz. It will lead to four different models, each of which can run on gas or electricity. Today, the brand’s entry-level sedans and SUVs include the A-class sedan, the electric EQA, and EQB SUVs, as well as the CLA-class, GLA-class, and GLB-class cars. This new range has fewer body styles. “We’re definitely going to have much better cost control with only four cars,” said Schäfer. This might make MB product makers think about making a sleek wagon version that can be used on American roads. With its long roof, the longroof car would be a one-of-a-kind and good option for EVs like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2.
