• Musk’s superchargers will soon work with the Mustang Mach-E and the Ford F-150 Lightning.
  • Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, says that people in the US and Canada will soon be able to reserve a free adapter that will let them use the big fast-charging network.
  • A lot of automakers have decided to use Tesla’s NACS charging connector, and most of them have promised adapters for outlets that already use the CCS style.

Ford is one of many car companies that want to start making new electric cars with Tesla’s unique charge connector, which is called the North American charge Standard (NACS for short). Most companies, including Ford, plan to start making the switch in 2025. They have also promised to make an adaptor for some current electric cars that use a CCS-style connector.

People who own Ford EVs will get a free Tesla Supercharger Adapter

Ford is not the only company saying it will offer adapters, but it is one of the first to do so. On social media today, Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, said that customers will soon be able to order a free fast-charger adaptor. In the US and Canada, owners of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E can now use Tesla’s huge network of Superchargers.

This time window fits with Ford’s original plan to release the adapters in the spring of 2024. In response to his earlier post, Farley said that bookings will be checked using the car identification number of each current Lightning or Mach-E owner and that all current owners can get an adaptor. It makes sense that each VIN will only get one connector. Besides that, Ford will pay for shipping.

Pricing also asked Ford directly if the adapters would come as normal equipment for people who buy new electric F-150 or Mustang SUVs. When we asked, they said that more information would be shared later.
