On Thursday, Mahindra & Mahindra Automotive North America announced that a US court had approved the production and sale of the Roxor off-road vehicle after 2020. The Mumbai-based firm announced the ruling in a regulatory filing on July 19, 2023. The ruling concerned Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) efforts to halt the production of the Post-2020 Roxor. The court’s findings led it to reject FCA’s request that the safe distance rule be applied here. The FCA’s proposal to end ROXOR production beyond 2020 was denied, the firm said. Partner company Mahindra Automotive North America will continue to produce, sell, and distribute the Roxor in the United States after 2020, according to Mahindra & Mahindra. The FCA sued the US International Trade Commission (ITC) in March 2018, shortly after the Mahindra Roxor was released in the US and Canada. The FCA claims that the vehicle is identical to the Willys Jeep and that Mahindra plagiarised critical elements of the Jeep’s design. What makes a product unique and what consumers have come to connect with that product are the components that make up its trade dress. For instance, the Jeep Wrangler’s round headlights, front grille, and boxy appearance are what FCA considers to be the brand’s defining characteristics.
