2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Overview

What’s new?

  • The new Wrangler Freedom Edition is now available to buy.
  • With the Wrangler Far Out edition, the diesel engine line-up is done.
  • New types of wheels and colors of paint
  • A 2018 Wrangler that is part of the fourth generation

Even though it can only do a few things, the Jeep Wrangler has become a well-known symbol. Do you wish to go off-road between the Pacific Coast Highway and the Appalachians? The best car is a Jeep Wrangler. In a strange turn of events, its reputation for being able to go off-road has also made it a popular way to get around in the suburbs, where a drive-through lane is probably the most challenging terrain to get through.

The 2023 Wrangler is even more appealing because it can be changed in many ways. You can get it with two or four doors and a four-cylinder or a powerful V8 engine, among six other options. Oh, and you can still get a model with a manual transmission. To sum up, the Wrangler is one of the few cars that can take you to some of the country’s most remote places right after you buy it. It has something for everyone as well.

This year, there are a lot of limited-edition Wranglers coming out. The Jeep Beach and High Tide models are made to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jeep Beach Week in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Jeep Freedom Edition is made to commemorate the military history of the Jeep. The diesel engine will be phased out by 2023, and the Far Out edition of the Wrangler is an excellent way to say goodbye.

There are, of course, other cars besides the Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler and the new Ford Bronco are very similar regarding style, functionality, and customization. The Land Rover Defender is a unique symbol seen in many different countries. Even though it costs more than the Wrangler, it works just as well in the city as in the Sahara. If you like the Jeep brand, the Grand Cherokee has solid off-road capabilities, a more comfortable ride, and more safety and security.

What do they like to live with?

We bought a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and took it on many adventures for two years and 50,000 miles. Even though it’s been a while, most of our opinions about the 2023 Wrangler are still valid.

Pros

  • The performance off-road is excellent.
  • A lot of ways to change things
  • Diesel and plug-in hybrid engines are available
  • A roof and doors that can be taken off

Cons

  • Especially on the Rubicon trim, the steering feels heavy and clunky.
  • At highway speeds, you can hear the wind and the tires.
  • Less space for luggage than in most SUVs

How well can the Wrangler 392 be driven? It looks like a cinder block that was shot by a rocket. This Wrangler goes speedy thanks to its 470-horsepower V8 engine. When the accelerator is pressed, the car goes 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.3 seconds. Even though the Wrangler’s acceleration is simple and smooth, which is oddly appealing, drivers with poor impulse control will quickly discover that it needs help with stopping, steering, and handling.

It has solid front and rear axles, 33-inch all-terrain tires, a front anti-roll bar that can be detached electronically, high ground clearance, and a lot of torque, which makes it one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy brand-new from the manufacturer.

How does the Wrangler 392 feel? If you drive the Rubicon at highway speeds for a long time, it might get boring. The same off-road equipment that lets the Rubicon climb over boulders also makes driving hard on roads that need smoother. The all-terrain tires and boxy shape worsen the wind and road noise.

Even though the Wrangler doesn’t put passenger comfort first, a few things make it stand out. Because of how they are made, long trips can be quickly taken in the front seats. The back bench is harder and flatter than the front bench, but it also leans back a bit. The climate control system works well, is quiet, and is easy to use. The 392 has front seats that heat up and a steering wheel that heats up.

How does the inside look? The factory-installed lift kit makes the Wrangler 392 much taller than a regular Rubicon, which makes it a little harder to get in. Anyone short or of average height must use the grasp grips. But this height, along with the expansive windows and thin pillars, means the outside views are great, and there aren’t many blind spots.

Even though the driver’s seat is pretty high, the steering wheel and rear have a lot of ways to adjust them. The Wrangler’s cabin looks small; other cars have more room for your shoulders and legs. Even though there are many options, the layout is pretty straightforward.

How good is the tech? The Rubicon 392 comes with the Wrangler’s top-of-the-line 8.4-inch infotainment system, which lets you see things clearly and usually responds quickly. The off-road application is one thing that takes a long time to load. There are many USB and USB-C charging ports and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for connecting your phone. There is no way to charge wirelessly.

The driver assistance systems on the Wrangler, like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and collision avoidance, are also on the 392. The outside cameras that look forward and backward are beneficial when parking and going up hills.

What about putting things away? The Wrangler is narrower than other SUVs, meaning it has less cargo space. It has 31.7 cubic feet of space behind the back seats, which is slightly less than the Toyota 4Runner and Land Rover Defender. You can fold the rear seats down to make more room for cargo. A few small-item pockets are in the front, and the door pockets are mostly shallow nets.

Four-door Wranglers that aren’t too big can easily fit child safety seats. You might have to move the front seat forward to make room for a chair that faces the back. The Jeep Wrangler can flat-tow an RV and pull up to 3,500 pounds with accessories.

How many miles can the Wrangler 392 get on a gallon of gas? You’ll be disappointed if you think a Wrangler with a V8 engine will be good on gas. The EPA estimates that the Wrangler 392 gets a combined fuel economy of 14 mpg. This is less than any other off-road vehicle that costs about the same.

Is it an intelligent decision to invest in a Wrangler 392? Even though the Wrangler Rubicon 392 has a high starting price, some buyers find it unbeatable. Its rugged hardware (like locking differentials and a V8 engine) and unique personality make it better than anything else on the market. More serious buyers will be happy with the price and gas mileage.

At first glance, the dashboard and seats look like they are made of excellent materials, and the way they are put together and how well they are made seem strong. But after driving a Wrangler Rubicon for more than 50,000 miles, we found a few parts that could have lived up to our hopes. Ownership and warranty coverage benefits are the same as what competitors offer.

The Wrangler Rubicon without a V8 already meets the personality and fun-to-drive requirements with its iconic style and unbeatable off-road skills. The score goes through the roof when a loud and powerful V8 engine is added. You’ll want to surprise new people in the back seat because the noise and speed on the highway make everyone laugh like kids. Off-road, as you creep down a hill in low range, the V8 soundtrack explodes and crackles.

The owner can remove the doors, roof, and windscreen, and there are almost endless aftermarket options. Those who don’t consider automobile lovers are still familiar with the Wrangler and believe it’s cool because of its appearance.

We recommend the Rubicon trim level to get the most out of your Wrangler. We would add a hardtop for a quieter ride, better insulation, LED Lighting and Safety groups for better headlights, a blind-spot warning system, and parking sensors.

Jeep Wrangler models

Starting in 2023, the Jeep Wrangler SUV will be available with either two or four doors. Sport and Rubicon are the two primary trim levels for the Wrangler with two doors. The Sport is also the basis for the Willys Sport, Sport S, Willys, and Altitude. The Sahara, High Tide, and Rubicon 392 trim levels for the Wrangler Unlimited have four doors. On Invoice Pricing, you can find a separate review of the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. Most versions of the Wrangler come with a part-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing as standard equipment. All-wheel drive is not a requirement.
