• Sony and Honda’s joint venture, Afeela, showed off a better version of their electric car idea at CES 2024.
  • The updated Afeela has parts that are ready for mass production, such as headlights that are larger and side view mirrors that are used instead of cameras.
  • Afeela also talked about the sedan’s specs, which included 150 kW of DC charging power and an electric motor with 241 horsepower on each end.

At CES 2023 last year, Afeela, the new electric car brand from Sony and Honda’s joint company Sony Honda Mobility, shocked the auto world. The brand will put an electric car on American roads for the first time in 2026. Afeela just recently shared a lot of new information about its engine. At CES 2024, it will show off a redesigned version of its prototype. The EV with four doors looks much more ready to go into production.

Sony and Honda Show Off the New Look of Their 2026 Afeela EV Sedan at CES

The newest Afeela prototype is 193.5 inches long, which is almost two inches shorter than a 2024 Honda Accord. However, its wheelbase is almost seven inches longer. The prototype that was first shown off last year has been changed in a few important ways. The headlights and grille trim pieces are bigger than they used to be, and the small cameras that stuck out from the A-pillar have been swapped out for regular sideview mirrors. Changes have been made to the back bumper, the grooves along the rocker panels, and the size of the charge port door on the front fender.

The dashboard is a bit bigger, and the steering wheel and rearview mirror have been slightly changed, but other than those changes, the car looks a lot like the prototype. There are two wireless phone chargers and a camera looking inward on top of the full-width screen.

Afeela also talked about the sedan’s engine, which wasn’t talked about when it was first shown off last year. Each end of the Afeela will have a permanent-magnet synchronous motor, which will give it an all-wheel drive. Even though each is rated at 241 horsepower, Afeela doesn’t say what the total horsepower number is, and adding the horsepower of each motor is only sometimes the easiest way to figure out the output.

How far? Not right now

The lithium-ion battery is said to hold 91.0 kWh, but Afeela hasn’t said anything about the range yet. Afeela says that the car can be charged with up to 150 kW of DC power and 11 kW of AC power at most. The air suspension is held up by front control arms of different lengths and a back suspension with multiple links. It has 21-inch wheels on all four sides, with 245/40 tires on the front and 275/35 tires on the back.

Coming out in 2026, the Afeela car will be sold in the US. It does not have a name yet. You can place your order in 2025. We don’t know everything about the company’s plans, but the Afeela will cost around $45,000. The car will be added to the video game Gran Turismo 7 later this year, so players will be able to drive it about two years before the Afeela comes out.
