Subaru has been putting out a lot of different versions of its sporty concept cars since 2013. Each one explores a different theme linked to the company’s regular vehicles. Look at the WRX, the Impreza, the Crosstrek, and the Japanese Levorg car. But Subaru’s Sport Mobility Concept stands out at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, now the Japan Mobility Show.

To begin with, it doesn’t look much like an average current Subaru. It has wide, horizontal lights that don’t look like headlights or daytime running lights. The center part is a bit bigger and looks like an extra light, but it’s hard to tell because the bottom half of the front end is blacked out. The front lights blend into excellent lines that draw attention to the sharp, beveled edges of the semi-squircle fenders.

Above is a sleek car shape with side windows that curve like parabolic discs, a garnish on the C-pillar, and side view cameras that look like thin blades. Lastly, does our improved picture have a little more depth to the tire tread? This sports roadster might be an all-terrain, all-wheel-drive car, but if it is, it’s more of a fashion statement than a look at a specific model.

In its vague description, Subaru talks about “electrification,” “going anywhere” in “extraordinary environments,” and accepting new “Subaru SPORT values.” From how it’s written, it will have all-wheel drive (AWD), which most likely means two motors since it’s an electric vehicle. “Going anywhere” means that it can go on any surface.

The coupe-like (or genuine coupe) body style could be a sneak peek at a replacement for the BRZ, but we will know for sure once we see the whole concept, which is currently hidden by shadows that look like teasers. This isn’t another Viziv, which is a good thing.
