The Subaru WRX STI S210 Prototype Unveiled, Offering a Sneak Peek at the Upcoming Production Model. The new STI lacks a manual transmission and is expected to produce 296 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque from its engine. Subaru will only sell 500 limited-edition S210s, and it is not clear if any will be sold in the United States. Subaru used to say that the gas-powered WRX STI was out of date, but it looks like the company has changed its mind. The Japanese automaker’s STI performance division debuted the S210 prototype today, ahead of the Tokyo car show. This is the first full-fledged STI variant since the third generation of the WRX came out for the 2022 model year, even though it doesn’t have a manual drive. The Subaru Performance gearbox, which is just a fancy name for its continuously variable gearbox (CVT), is tuned to work best with the WRX STI S210. The base WRX has a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine, all-wheel drive, and a transmission without gears. The STI version has better intake and exhaust parts and a retuned ECU, which Subaru says will make the engine produce 296 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This is more than the regular engine’s 271 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. The last model, STI S209, on the other hand, was much more powerful. It had three pedals, 341 horsepower, and 330 pound-feet of torque. More bracing, adjustable dampers made just for the S210, and coil springs are some of the performance improvements. 255/35R-19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are mounted on the handmade BBS wheels. With red-painted pistons and six-piston units up front, as well as better brake pads, Brembo stops the car. The new STI’s body is gloss black, with an unobtrusive wing on the back. The lower edge of the grille now has red trim, an S210 logo, and a unique mesh pattern. There is now a lip spoiler and vertical lights on the front bumper. Inside the new STI, there are Recaro front seats with carbon fiber backrests that may or may not have power changes. The rest of the car is the same as a regular WRX. The trim on the dashboard and doors is piano black, and the armrests are made of microsuede. As you might expect, there are a lot of S210 stickers. Subaru says it will sell 500 new STIs, but it’s not clear if any of them will make it to the United States. The company that makes it says the price will be announced later, but we think it will be more expensive than the previous S209—the US model was an amazing $64,880.
