This weekend, the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be filled with the sound of the customised Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Cup car, ready to race away from the group of GTE cars following it. It’s a big deal that a stock car is running for the first time in 47 years. This is the perfect reason to make the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition a limited-edition vehicle that will likely be one of the last and best of its kind. The Garage 56 Edition is a tribute to the ZL1, Chevy’s one-of-a-kind Le Man’s car built on the best sixth-generation Camaro. That means the chassis will go around the Nürburgring nearly 20 seconds faster than a Tesla Model S Plaid. It will also have a 6.2-liter, 650-horsepower supercharged V8 engine paired with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic drive. This version keeps the dive plane-equipped front end of the extra-hardcore 1LE but replaces its tall wing with a “wicker bill” spoiler like those on NASCAR Cup cars. It has new paint called “Riptide Blue,” which is based on the look of Le Man’s car. It also has logos celebrating the 75th anniversary of both Hendrick Motorsports and NASCAR. Even though it is small compared to other special editions, fans will like its unique aero and connections to this famous Le Man’s car. The frame of the NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen stock cars was used to build the Le Mans Camaro. It still has a NASCAR-spec R07 small-block V8 engine, but it has been heavily changed. It now has lights that work, is lighter, and has better handling. ESPN says that 750 horsepower has been added to the engine. Even though it started small, it is swift. It beats the GTE class by many seconds and is only a few seconds slower than the LMP2 prototypes. The entry from Garage 56 is only there as a show car because this is a one-car class made for unique drivers like this one. On the other hand, the historical importance of a NASCAR stock car at Le Mans justifies this limited-edition Camaro, of which there will only be 56 made. Later this year, as 2024 models, they will be offered as part of the Camaro’s second-to-last year of production before it is no longer made. After a good run, the Camaro at least gets to go out on a high note.
