• The speed of the Blue Oval’s mid-size battery-electric SUV is based on the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally.
  • The Rally should be able to handle mud and gravel roads thanks to a 0.8-inch lift and extra protection under the body.
  • When it comes out early next year, the Mach-E Rally is estimated to cost around $65,000.

Ford may not sell the Focus RS or any Focus anymore, but the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally could continue the history of the hot hatch. Ford expects the Rally’s two electric motors (one at each end) to make more than 480 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, making it the newest battery-electric Mustang Mach-E trim.

As of this writing, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition has 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque. Ford might add the extra speed from the engine of the Mach-E Rally to the Performance Edition.

Unclean Mustang

But horsepower and torque numbers are just for looks. The Mustang Mach-E Rally is a battery-powered horse different from the Mustang GT. The Mach-E trim focuses on speed on the road, while the Rally is made for driving off-road.

Ford made the Mach-E Rally to go on rough gravel and dirt. So that the engineers and mechanics working on the Mach-E Rally could tame this wild horse, Blue Oval built a particular rally track at its testing site in Michigan. We will know if Ford’s team could turn the Mach-E Rally into a racehorse once we get behind the wheel of this electric SUV.

But the Rally’s technical improvements don’t stop with its engine. This dirt-loving Mach-E should be able to handle rocky ground better with its MagneRide shocks, specially tuned springs, 0.8-inch lift, and RallySport drive mode. The front and back motors of the Rally are also protected by shields that keep out things that could damage the engine.

A car that can go off-road

Ford made the Rally to be driven off-road, but this Mustang Mach-E version can also be driven off-road in some situations. Do you need evidence? Take note of the odd 19-inch wheels with Michelin CrossClimate2 all-season tires that come with the package. Do you have to make your way or go through dangerous terrain? Then, it would help if you chose a Ford SUV or truck with the name Raptor or Tremor.

On the bright side, the Mach-E Rally has a front reset point, so you can rest easy if you push it past its limits. This goes with the other rally-specific features, like the wheels, a modified front fascia with high-mounted fog lights, a rear wing attached to the hatch that looks like the one on the Focus RS, a black roof, and a set of contrasting lines on the hood and tailgate.

The front rotors on the Rally are 15.8 inches in diameter, 1.5 inches bigger than those on the 2023 Mach-E. They are held in place by Brembo-made brakes that are painted red. Ford hasn’t said anything about the rear brakes and calipers, but we expect the regular 12.4-inch brakes and single-piston stoppers on the current Mach-E to stay the same.

How far the Rally will go when fully charged depends on how hard you push down with your left foot? Ford wants the battery pack in the SUV, which has a usable capacity of 91,0 kWh, to last 250 miles.

Like the Mach-E Rally, the Blue Oval is still figuring out the exact price, but the company is shooting for a starting price of around $65,000. You can expect the company to release the final information about power, speed, range, and cost closer to the start of 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E production, which will happen early next year. Sales will start soon after.
