Hyundai says the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe’s boxy new shape is better on the inside, with more space for people and things than the last model. To make sure that claim was true, we measured how much stuff could fit in the new Santa Fe trunk. The answer is long and complicated.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has a lot more room for cargo than older models

During our tests, the 2024 Santa Fe could hold 34 carry-on bags with all seats folded down. That’s seven more full bags than the previous version Santa Fe could hold. This backs up Hyundai’s claim that the new model can hold 80 cubic feet of goods, compared to 72 cubic feet for the old model. Since the 2024 Santa Fe already has bigger overall measurements and a squared-off back end, the increase in size is not a surprise. It gets 1.8 inches longer overall, and its wheelbase and width also get bigger.

Using any way of measurement, the new Santa Fe has more space inside than the old one. That being said, it’s not fully fair to compare the new seat arrangement to others since it has a normal third row of chairs, and the old one only had two rows. Still, the new Santa Fe could fit 16 carry-on bags when the third row of seats was folded down. This is up from 12 bags that could fit behind the second row in the old model. If you fold down the third row of seats, the new Santa Fe has room for five carry-on bags. We’ll have a full review of the updated Hyundai Santa Fe soon, so stay tuned for more news, first-hand accounts from drivers, and test results.
