• Maserati has shown off two special edition MC20 sports cars to mark the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking MC12.
  • The MC12 GT1 race car gives the MC20 Leggenda its paint job, and the MC12 Stradale road car gives the MC20 Icona its paint job.
  • Only 20 Icona and Leggenda cars will be made by Maserati, which means that production will be very limited.

I’m sure you already have a picture of the car in your mind. The Maserati MC12 GT1 is a famous car. It has a low hood that slopes up toward the air intake on the roof and wide sides that are hidden by the huge back wing. It’s been twenty years since Trident chose to race again, this time with the MC12 as their main weapon. The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda are two special edition cars that Maserati is making to mark the occasion.

The 2024 Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda are based on icons

Each version has its paint job, which is a different MC12 inspired by the past. You likely know more about the MC20 Icona than racing in the early 2000s. It is linked to the famous MC12 Stradale road car because of its two-tone paint job, with Blu Stradale on the bottom and Bianco Audace matte white on top.

The wheels are also made in colors that don’t go together. The brake calipers and chrome-plated wheels have a blue trident emblem on them. Each door has an Italian flag on it, and there is a Maserati Fuoriserie sign on each side of the car.

The MC20 Leggenda, on the other hand, has teal Digital Mint matte paint and black Nero Essenza matte paint, which, as the name indicates, is based on a racing legend. Leggenda has black wheels that show off its black brake calipers. People who read carefully will spot a reference to the GT1’s yellow mirrors. The yellow trident emblem on the C-pillars, doors, and front of the car is a reference to these.

Both versions have a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine covered in carbon fiber that says “ICONA. UNA DI 20” or “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20,” based on the model.

Both have four-way race seats made of a single piece of metal. The insides are finished in either silver and blue (Icona) or black and silver (leggenda). The V-6 engine, which has 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, has the same engineering parts as the regular MC20. Invoice Pricing tested the Icona and Leggenda and found that they should be able to reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, even though they only have half as many cylinders as the MC12.

The models for celebrations are only made in small numbers. To mark the twentieth anniversary of Maserati’s return to racing, the company is only going to make 20 Leggenda and 20 Icona cars around the world. The company hasn’t said how much the limited-edition cars will cost, but it’s likely to be a lot more than the MC20’s base price of $242,995.
