We returned a year-long Mazda CX-50 rental. It had many positives, but we needed to figure out how it would handle larger wheels. Mazda addressed our complaints with the 2024 Mazda CX-50, which has new shocks and a steering system, but the price increased.

The CX-50’s steering weight and ride quality are “uncomfortably familiar with the road imperfections, dips, potholes, and speed bumps in our neighbourhood.” Only the 2024 model year has fixed these issues.

Mazda doesn’t sell the CX-50 S. The 2024 model year does not list it, suggesting it is no longer built. The 2.5 S Select trim is now the base model but costs more than last year. The former Mazda website listed the S’s base price at $28,925 and the S Select’s at $30,325. CX-50 2.5 S Select trims start at $31,675, including delivery.

The remaining engines are turbocharged 2.5-liter I-4 engines with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on 87 octane gasoline and 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft on premium 93. The 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G I-4 engine produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft. Six-speed automated engines power each power plant. Turbos start at $39,475. Naturally aspirated automobiles can draw 2,000 pounds, and turbocharged cars 3,500 pounds with supplementary towing gear. Prices have been modified for the 2024 model year, which begins manufacturing this November with steering and damper changes.
