When thought of as an electric car, the Porsche Macan is one of Invoice Pricing’s all-time best SUVs. The Taycan sedan is the main reason why Porsche is switching to electric cars. Still, the Macan EV is expected to have a bigger effect because it uses the company’s Premium Electric Platform. Together with Audi, Porsche built the 800-volt PPE platform, which will be the basis for all of their high-volume cars, starting with the best-selling Macan.

Let me introduce the Macan EV

We have been closely watching the development of the new 2024 Porsche Macan EV for a long time, even though it is already on the market. Its PPE platform was already made public, along with spy shots that showed off its sleek, modern look. Most recently, a prototype test drive showed off its electric range. Naturally, we will know if Porsche was able to keep the great driving experience of the gas-powered Macans when we take a test drive of the production version that runs on electricity. But what we do know so far looks good.

At the start, the small electric luxury SUV will come in two different styles. An all-wheel drive with two motors is standard on both the Macan 4 and the more powerful Macan Turbo. When the time-limited over-boost option is put on, the four can make up to 402 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. In the same way, the Turbo can make up to 630 hp and 833 lb-ft of power.

Porsche says that with launch control, the Macan 4 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 136 mph. It is said that the Macan Turbo can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 161 mph.

A lithium-ion battery pack with a net capacity of 95.0 kWh powers the electric motors in both types. When connected to a DC fast charger, the Macan can get up to 270 kilowatts of power. According to Porsche, this can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. We drove a prototype Macan EV more than 250 miles on the highway, but the real-life range could be up to 300 miles. The company still needs to put out EPA range figures.

Porsche says that the two-valve dampers on the Macan 4 and Turbo’s standard air suspension help to offer a “wider spectrum between comfort and performance.” The SUV’s Turbo version has an electronic-locking rear differential, and the Macan is the first car to offer an optional rear-axle steering system, which lets the car turn circles up to 36 feet in width and a maximum of five degrees.

The new electric Macan is 188.4 inches long, which is a little longer than the gas-powered version. The EV model is about the same height as the regular model at 63.8 inches. The length of its wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer, at 113.9 inches.

The inside of the Macan EV

With its many screens, the electric Macan’s interior is reminiscent of other new Porsche cars, especially the Cayenne’s dashboard. Also, the company leaves some physical switchgear for the HVAC controls. This way, customers can move the air vents with their hands instead of having to use a touch screen, which was annoying in older models. The ambient internal lighting not only sets different moods but can also show different functions, such as charging, greetings, and driver-assistance alerts. Porsche says that many parts of the interior, including the leatherless seats, are made from materials that can be recycled.

The Macan EV has a digital gauge panel that is 12.6 inches wide and a touchscreen that is 10.9 inches wide. They work together to make an Android-based entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and Porsche’s virtual helper. The new Porsche App Centre now has apps from outside Porsche. A 10.9-inch third panel is available and faces the person in the front seat.

Augmented reality technologies are built into a head-up display for the Porsche Driver Experience. An 87-inch screen that looks like it’s about 33 feet in front of the car shows virtual information, such as navigation arrows, thanks to the augmented reality system.

Porsche says that the EV’s back seat can hold up to 18 cubic feet of stuff, and when the seatbacks are folded down, it can hold up to 47 cubic feet. There’s also three cubic feet of space under the hood, in case that isn’t enough. The electric Macan can pull up to 4,400 pounds, but doing so will greatly lower its range.

The base price for the 2024 Porsche Macan 4 is $80,450, and the price for the Macan Turbo is $106,950. Orders are being taken for both models right now, and delivery is due in the second half of the year.
