• The 2024 Subaru WRX TR has been shown off. It resembles the 2006 WRX TR (“Tuner Ready”).
  • With Brembo brakes, a firmer suspension, retuned steering, and Recaro seats as standard, this new TR is very well equipped.
  • The model will be shown to the public for the first time on October 7 at Florida Subiefest, a fan event. The price of the TR will be known later this year.

Subaru’s announcement that the current generation of the WRX would not get an STI version made many fans very sad. The company has improved this name because it uses an old name again.

The car company is bringing back the TR name, which in 2006 meant “Tuner Ready.” At that time, it was a simple model that people could change to fit their needs. It came with a non-leather steering wheel, plain seats, and unpainted mirror caps. It cost $1,000 less than the regular WRX.

The 2024 WRX TR uniquely does things. Brembo six-piston front, two-piston rear calipers, more giant brake pads and rotors, and a bigger brake master cylinder have replaced the old brakes. Subaru says that the damping rates have been changed, and the springs have been stiffer on the TR. Subaru says the TR has better body control and steering response than lower trims. The suspension and steering rack have been improved, but the ride quality has stayed the same.

The old TR’s interior was simple and ready for race bucket seats. On the other hand, the new TR comes with Recaro bucket seats up front, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted in eight different ways. The race seats are made of black and gray Ultrasuede with red stitching to make them stand out. The seatbacks have the Recaro logo embroidered on them. But Subaru did give up one comfort to save weight: the power sunroof was taken away.

The strong but not particularly impressive powertrain from the base models is back for the TR, but only manual transmissions are offered this time. The 2.4-liter flat-four engine has a turbocharger that makes 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The new package comes with unique 19-inch multi-spoke wheels in shiny gray and a set of 245/35 R19 Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires that are better at grip. EyeSight, Subaru’s technology to help drivers, is also built into the car.

Subaru said that the TR’s price will be public later this year. The GT trim already on the market costs about $47,000, so this one will cost a few thousand more. By early 2024, the upgraded trim should be on sale at stores.
