Volkswagen‘s first all-electric car, the ID4, came out in 2020 and puzzled us. Even though it had some annoying quirks with the controls, it was comfy, unpretentious, and easy to use. In the present day, the all-electric SUV is going through many changes. Only the 82-kWh type gets these new upgrades, which boost power and improve technology.

The only part of the 2024 Volkswagen ID4 that has changed is the 82-KWh Pack

The biggest problem is that the improvements can only be used on ID4s with the 82-kWh battery pack. The 62-kWh battery pack has stayed the same since the 2023 model year. But it is still offered in RWD or AWD Standard/Pro, S, and S Plus trims.

A change that could be helpful

Any way you look at it, moving the shifter is a good change that makes it easy to use. The shifter is now on a separate stick on the right side of the steering column, away from the digital display. The way to handle it stays the same: turn it forward to put it in drive and backward to put it in reverse. The “Park” button is at the very end of the stick. The wiper stalk was moved from the right side of the steering column to the left side, where it was joined with the branch for the turn signals to make a single, multi-function stalk. With the changes, the buttons and instruments for the driver are now more like the future ID. Buzz.

A more prominent display with more information

The new 12.9-inch screen with LED slides for the 82-kWh battery types is also a significant improvement. We’ve had trouble with these buttons before, so we hope they’ve been fixed, but we need to get our hopes up. In addition to the larger display, S Plus version has a redesigned infotainment screen and a more user-friendly way to control the temperature.

New wheels and perks for comfort

Also, S-grade ID4s with 82 kWh battery packs will have front seats that can be cooled or heated. The S Plus will get a new high-end Harman/Kardon nine-speaker music system with a 16-channel amplifier. Standard, S, and S Plus versions of the 2024 ID4 will get new 20-inch aluminium wheels, while the S Plus version will get a set of finished 21-inch aluminium wheels.
