• At the end of the year, Audi will start selling the 2025 Q6 e-tron, an electric car that looks a lot like the company’s best-selling Q5 SUV.
  • There will be two-motor all-wheel-drive models of the 2025 Audi SQ6 e-tron and Q6 with up to 456 and 510 horsepower, respectively.
  • They say the Q6 e-tron will have an EPA range of at least 300 miles thanks to its 94.4-kWh battery and new 800-volt electrical design.

These are the third version of Audi electric SUVs. They are called the 2025 Q6 and SQ6 e-tron. These cars are a lot of firsts for the company. They are the first Audi models built on the Volkswagen Group’s scalable Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, the first electric vehicles made at Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, Germany, and the first shows of the brand’s new electrical architecture and cockpit layout. They want to fight with cars like the Lexus RZ, Cadillac Lyriq, and Genesis Electrified GV70 in the heart of the electric luxury SUV market by showing off cutting-edge technology on the inside and outside.

The 2025 Audi Q6 and SQ6 e-tron use an 800-volt base to make the brand's electric cars better

The most important thing that was announced was the final look of the Q6 and SQ6’s body. It’s very Audi, with a sleek, sporty, and generally appealing look. We have already seen samples of the new e-tron covered in camouflage and pictures of the inside of the car. These cars had two-box body types, a big grille, blistered fenders, and great lighting in the front and back. Later, more streamlined models of the Sportback will be added.

The brand’s newest Matrix LED headlights and dynamic OLED taillights, which can talk to other drivers by sending out emergency signals based on traffic conditions, were shown off in models for the European market. However, federal rules will mean that models going to the US can’t have their dynamic high-beam function turned on, and the taillights can only show animations if the car is parked. That being said, drivers can make their daytime running lights and taillights unique by picking from eight different styles.

The right sized

The five-seater Q6 and SQ6 are 187.8 inches long, which puts them between the Q4 e-tron, which is one size smaller, and the Q8 e-tron, which is one size bigger. Think of them as electric versions of the company’s best-selling Q5, but with a wheelbase that’s 3.1 inches longer (114.1 inches), which makes the car surprisingly roomy with good legroom in the back. The Q6 and SQ6 only have 19 cubic feet of cargo room behind the seats when the back seats are folded down and 54 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. A little frunk can use up two extra pieces of material.

The inside is made of many eco-friendly materials and has a squared-off steering wheel and a redesigned dashboard with two beautiful OLED screens in the middle: a 14.5-inch tablet and a curved 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster. There is also an optional 10.9-inch tablet for the passenger that can play movies but can’t be seen by the driver while the car is moving. Built on our short time with a demo car, the infotainment software that runs these screens is a new system built on Android that looks well-thought-out and easy to use.

We quickly got used to the new layout, even though we like buttons that are firmer. A new AI voice control system that learns about a driver’s likes and habits is also ready to help. An 830-watt Bang & Olufsen luxury audio upgrade, dynamic ambient lighting across the dashboard, augmented reality navigation on a head-up display, and the ability to receive software and feature updates over the air are some of the best features. Along the road, these EVs should be very quiet, and so should our test car.

Of course, the Q6 and SQ6 will come with a lot of technology to help the driver, like cruise control, automatic front emergency braking, back parking assist, lane departure warning, and alerts for driver distraction and fatigue. These Audis will also come with an updated Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus system that can be added as an extra to help the drivers find their way. It will use devices in the car, high-definition map data, and data from other cars in the cloud.

Better building

At first, the Q6 and SQ6 e-trons will only come with two motors and all-wheel drive. Soon, however, there will be an entry-level model with only one motor and rear-wheel drive in the United States. Both the Q6 and the SQ6 have a total of 422 and 483 horsepower. Boost mode can temporarily raise their power to 456 and 510 horsepower. A new 94.4-kWh battery should give the Q6 the power to go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, and the EPA says it will have a range of at least 300 miles. They say the SQ6 can reach 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, but they don’t think it will go as far on a charge.

The 800-volt PPE design, which is also the basis for the new Porsche Macan EV, lets you charge quickly at up to 270 kW, but only if you can find a charging point that can handle that much power. Audi says that when conditions are perfect, the technology can give you more than 150 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It should take about 21 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. The PPE program lets you charge multiple batteries at stations that can handle up to 400 volts. So, the computer of the system cuts the battery in half and charges both halves at the same time, with a maximum output of 135 kW.

The Q6 and SQ6 will first come with the more usual combined charging system (CCS) connector. Still, Audi says they will soon switch to a North American Charging Standard (NACS) socket so they can easily connect to Tesla’s Supercharger network. The normal onboard AC charger for charging the battery at home has 9.6 kW of power; a 19.2 kW unit with more power will be available soon. While you’re driving, you can use regenerative stopping in five different ways, such as automatically or by pressing a button on the steering wheel paddles.

The Q6 and SQ6 are mechanically different from the Macan EV because they have permanent magnet motors in the front and back. In contrast, the Macan EV has an induction AC motor in the front and a permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor in the back. The Porsche also has a rear motor unit that has been moved, which should make the balance of its rear-drive better. On the SQ6, air springs and adjustable shocks come as standard. On the Q6, however, they will be an option. Audi’s all-wheel drive setup still favors the back wheels. 20-inch wheels and summer tires can be added to the SQ6. Wheels range from 19 to 21 inches across. For people who want to move light loads, both models will be able to pull up to 4400 pounds.

The US market still needs to learn what the price is. The Q6 e-tron will likely begin at around $66,000, while the SQ6 e-tron will likely cost around $72,000. These prices are a lot higher than the starting prices for the Q5 and SQ5, which are $46,495 and $58,895, respectively. However, in the very competitive SUV market, their extra features and ability to charge quickly should make them good EV choices.
