• Audi just released the new RS6 Avant, which is a special edition model. It has two skirts, some strange wheels, and a lot of carbon fiber.
  • The famous Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car from the late 1980s and early 1990s is where the limited edition wagon called the RS6 Avant GT got its ideas.
  • The RS6 Avant GT will only be made in 660 units around the world. Of those, 85 will be sent to the US and seven to Canada.

A lot of race fans view the good old days of the 1980s and 1990s with rose-colored eyes. Whether they earned it or not, the period makes people admire and miss the skilled drivers who drove the cars of the time. Automakers today try to cash in on people’s nostalgia by making current versions of old cars. Audi thinks that the 2025 RS6 Avant GT will amaze people just as much as the iconic Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO racer. This is precisely what Audi is doing with their car. The 621 horsepower in the Avant GT should be enough, but we might want more than 700 horsepower and side-mounted exhaust like the car it was based on.

The 2025 Audi RS6 Avant GT will look like an IMSA GTO

The bright paint job and white wheels of the RS6 Avant GT are the first things that catch your eye. But a closer look shows that the station wagon has experienced major changes. More research shows that the GT looks a lot like the 2020 Audi RS6 GTO concept car, which was made by Audi Design and a group of twelve trainees.

Like the Quattro IMSA GTO Car from 1989, Double Wing

Like the GTO, the huge double wing on the back of the car caught our attention right away. It made us think of the big twin wings on the 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO racing. The new Avant GT has a shiny black air intake and a new grille on the front. The GT also has a sharp front splitter on its front edge. The front fenders and bonnet of the Avant GT have been totally redesigned and were wrapped in carbon fiber. The rear holes in the fender lower air pressure and help the brakes cool down.

The wagon is a limited version, and it will come with three different custom decal designs. The first one, shown above, is made up of Audi Sport’s black, gray, and red colors and Arkona’s white. You can choose the second or third choice, which has gloss or matte black wheels with Nardò gray or Mythos black paint.

It comes with Audi’s RS Design Package Plus on the inside of the Avant GT. In other words, the red and copper stitching that makes the black inside stand out can be found on the steering wheel, center panel, armrests, and floor mats, among other places. A special set of carbon-fiber bucket seats was added to the front seats of the Audi RS6 Avant Performance to carry the carbon-fiber theme inside.

It could be more impressive for the Avant GT now that the RS6 Avant Performance is the standard for the RS6’s performance. The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine in the special version is the same as the one in the regular RS6 Avant Performance. It changes into an eight-speed automatic gear, which gives the Quattro all-wheel-drive system 621 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.

The engine and locking center differential of the Avant GT are both from the regular model. However, Audi says that the quattro sport differential on the back axle has been tuned to work best with the RS 6 Avant GT. As a special version, the RS6 Avant has coil-over shocks that can be adjusted to lower it by about half an inch.

The regular RS6 Avant Performance is built on a production line, but the Avant GT is put together by hand at the very end. The RS6 Avant GT will only be made in 660 units around the world. Of those, 85 will be sent to the US and seven to Canada.

The exact price for North America has not been released yet, but Audi has confirmed that the special edition will cost a little less than €235,000 there. Audi says that deliveries will start this spring.
