• There are fewer versions of the 2025 Ford Explorer than there were before, but each one has new interiors, front ends, and other tech-focused updates.
  • Now, every Explorer has an entertainment system with Google Assistant, a fully digital gauge cluster, and apps that let you play games and watch videos.
  • Ford’s mid-size SUV is still the same technically, even though it comes with more features as standard and can now be ordered with the BlueCruise hands-free driving system.

According to different sources, the Ford Explorer is the main reason why Americans can’t get enough sport-utility cars (SUVs).

The Explorer, which sounds like a fun and exciting car, came out for the 1991 model year and has been made ever since. The latest version of the car went back to rear-wheel drive for 2020. As with all Ford cars, the 2025 Explorer gets a mid-cycle update. The base, engines, and most of the body panels stay the same. Ford’s mid-size SUV has fewer models, a new look on the outside, better technology inside, and a smaller range.

The 2025 Ford Explorer will look different and have better entertainment features

The Most Recent Explorer Group

Ford is making the Explorer line less complicated so that by 2025, quality will be better and fewer resources will be used. Because of this, the eight trim options that were available last year have been cut down to four: Active, ST-Line, Platinum, and ST.

A Ford source told Invoice Pricing that the company is now working on the “most off-road-capable Explorer” and that more information will be available later this year. The future of the off-road-focused Timberline is still being determined. It looks like there will be something other than a Raptor version. Instead, we expect the Timberline to get a facelift and more powerful hardware.

The new Explorer has a bigger grille, headlights, and front bumpers that look like skid plates and are bigger and lower than the old ones. To make it easier to tell them apart, Ford gives the first four trim levels their grilles. The Active has a black mesh design with chrome bars, the ST-Line and ST have gloss-black honeycomb patterns and unique emblems, and the Platinum has a wing design with chrome and black parts.

The headlights on the Explorer have also been improved to look better. They are now connected by a horizontal piece that is partly lit up and has the word “Explorer” written on it. Customers can now buy all models directly from the factory, except for the base model with a black roof. The tow package, which used to be available, is now standard on all models. However, the vehicle can only pull 5,000 pounds, which is 300–600 pounds less than the previous model.

As with almost every mid-cycle change, you can choose from new wheel styles and paint colors. The only trim available in the beautiful new Vapor Blue shiny color is the high-end Platinum trim. The performance-focused ST now has magnetite-painted 21-inch wheels, and the less powerful ST-Line can also get them. But you’ll also need the Street Pack, which has better brakes and calipers painted red. Anyone who gets either ST model can also go to Ford’s performance driving school for free. The school has locations in Park City, Utah, and Asheville, North Carolina.

Ford says that the 2025 Explorer’s chassis and engine will be mostly the same.In addition to the normal rear-wheel drive that comes with every model, all-wheel drive is an option that may be purchased separately. There is a 300-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine in the Active, ST-Line, and Platinum models. The Platinum now comes with the same 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 400 horsepower twin-turbo that powers the ST. It used to come standard. The ST model is the only one with paddle shifters, but both engines come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Inside the new Explorer

The new display for the Explorer is almost identical to the one from last year. It has more than just the 13.2-inch tablet and 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster that comes with the brand-new entertainment system (more on that below).

The dashboard has been redesigned and moved forward to make the space in front of the seats feel bigger. New materials and shapes have also been used on the surfaces. The brand-new dual wireless charging pads are stored in a useful tray that sticks out from the middle stack. Ford says that all of their cars now come in a number of new colors for the inside and that the seats in their cheaper cars have been changed to be more comfortable.

We don’t like the piano-black accent on the redesigned Platinum center panel, but we do like that the cheaper models’ matte finish is less likely to get scratched. Every Explorer has a soundbar-like part built into the dashboard that hides the audio speakers. More expensive models come with a B&O system.

As was already said, the two huge monitors are normal. Ford says that all software development was done in-house, even though the car was built on Google’s Android Automotive operating system. Both screens now work on a single module. Before, the gauge cluster could only be used for turn-by-turn navigation, but now it can also show a map. The map, on the other hand, can only be seen once a path is set and begun.

Voice settings are becoming more popular thanks to apps like Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri, and Amazon Alexa. Ford’s infotainment system, called the Ford Digital Experience, has also become more popular. You can use Alexa to handle your car, even though it comes with Google’s software by default. Most people who use their phones to control their cars now have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built-in.

Explorer owners now have access to almost infinite apps through the Google Play store, in addition to a lot of other ways to connect. While the car is parked, they can watch movies on Amazon Prime and YouTube. With a Bluetooth-connected controller, they can play a variety of video games and use the Vivaldi browser to browse the web (Google Chrome is coming soon).

The Ford Explorer is the only car with this improved infotainment system that can receive updates over the air. Customers must sign up for the Ford Premium Plan, which includes a 5G link and a Wi-Fi hotspot, in order to get the most out of the experience. The first year is free.

Also, Ford’s BlueCruise technology for hands-free driving is now available for the 2025 Explorer. It’s not available on the base Active trim, but it can be turned on for other types. When people want to buy BlueCruise, they can either pay $700 or use the free 90-day sample. From then on, they have to decide whether to pay $75 a month or $800 for a yearly plan. Every Explorer comes with a number of tools that help the driver, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance.

People can now place orders for the 2025 Ford Explorer. The cars should start showing up at stores in the spring or summer. It starts at $41,220 for the Active, $45,980 for the ST-Line, $53,120 for the Platinum, and $56,800 for the ST. Ford hasn’t said how much most of the choices will cost, but all-wheel drive will cost an extra $2,000, just like it did last year.
