• Hyundai has changed the Ioniq 5 for 2025 and now has an off-road-ready trim level called XRT.
  • The XRT has better approach and exit angles, all-terrain tires, and a seat that is almost an inch higher.
  • This year’s Ioniq 5 series has a longer range and a NACS charge connection. It also has a window wiper on the back.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has become more famous since it came out for the 2022 model year. It won the Invoice Pricing EV of the Year award and is on our list of the ten best. Hyundai chose to improve the Ioniq 5 for 2025 by changing the bumpers, the layout of the dashboard, and finally adding a rear windshield wiper. This was done even though sales of the sharp-looking electric vehicle have been steadily rising since it was first released. There is now an XRT type with a 0.9-inch suspension lift and a tougher look.

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 now comes with the off-road XRT package and a rear wiper

Larger Batteries and a NACS Plug

Even though there aren’t many changes to the Ioniq 5’s looks, the new front bumper, which has a bigger black section surrounded by stronger chrome trim, makes the car look more stable. Hyundai also showed off new wheels and a reworked rear spoiler that make the car more aerodynamic. Atlas White Matte, Ecotronic Gray Matte, and Celadon Gray Matte are the three new colors that you can choose from. Hyundai says it made the rear fan because customers asked for it.

Hyundai made the Ioniq 5’s battery a little bigger under the hood. The Standard Range goes down from 58.0 kWh to 63.0 kWh, while the Long Range goes up from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh. Hyundai thinks that this will lead to better range estimates, with all-wheel-drive cars going from 260 miles to more than 280 miles. For the SE Standard Range model, the range will go from 220 miles to 240 miles. For the rear-wheel-drive Long Range model, the range will go from 303 miles to more than 310 miles. Soon, you should be able to get official EPA scores.

The 2025 Ioniq 5 is the first Hyundai car to have a North American Charging Standard (NACS) link, which is another important improvement. With this port, the EV can be put into any of the over 17,000 stations in the Tesla Supercharger network without an adapter. From the 2025 model year on, some Ioniq 5s will come with the old Combined Charging System (CCS) connection. By the end of 2024, though, all new Hyundai electric cars will have the NACS link.

A cabin with more comfort

Hyundai has reorganized the Ioniq 5’s interior with new HVAC controls and upgraded screens. The previous setup, featuring two 12.0-inch screens, has been replaced with larger 12.3-inch displays that now come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hyundai also added physical buttons for frequently used functions—like heated and ventilated seats, the heated steering wheel, and parking assist—on the center console behind the cupholders. The wireless charging pad has been relocated, and the steering wheel design has been updated. Additionally, all Ioniq 5 models, except for the base SE, now feature heated rear seats.

Many other safety features have been improved, such as lane-following help and more remote smart parking help. The adaptive cruise control system has also been improved, and the base SE trim now has blind-spot impact detection.

Looking into Off-road

Hyundai’s off-road-optimized XRT grade is now available on the Ioniq 5. This grade claims better off-road performance. Along with a small suspension lift, the XRT comes with stylish black 18-inch wheels and 235/60R-18 all-terrain tires. The XRT only comes with a Long-Range battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive.

The front of the XRT is also very different. It has a bumper covered in “digital camouflage” and two red tow hooks. The rectangular piece of trim has the Ioniq 5’s pixel design pattern on it. Hyundai says that the tow hooks can pull up to 5,834 pounds. This style is also used for the back bumper. The trim around the windows, badges, mirrors, and other parts is all blacked out.

Because of the different bumpers and higher ride height, the approach angle goes up by about 2 degrees to 19.8 degrees, and the exit angle goes up by more than 5 degrees to 30 degrees. Inside the XRT, there is a set of all-weather floor mats with an XRT logo, a black roof, and leatherette seats with a unique pattern and XRT logos on their backs. There will only be two colors of the XRT: Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl.

We are getting here this fall

The first car to be made at Hyundai Motor Group’s new Metaplant America site in Georgia will be the 2025 Ioniq 5. This means that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 can now get a $3750 government tax credit. Hyundai thinks that the Ioniq 5 will still be able to get government tax breaks in the future. Along with that, Hyundai says that people who lease the Ioniq 5 will get a $7,500 credit from the company. The 2025 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5 XRT will be on sale at car lots beginning in the fall.
