• Mercedes-AMG has shown off a hybrid GT car that has 805 hp and 1047 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance’s back features a twin-turbo V-8 engine and an electric motor.
  • Benz can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 199 mph.

Mercedes-AMG thought that the GT63 Coupe’s 577 horsepower wasn’t enough. The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance is the top-of-the-line model. It has a hybrid V-8 engine that makes 805 horsepower, which is very amazing. The new E Performance model made its appearance at the Formula One race weekend in Shanghai. It has a hybrid layout that was influenced by the best open-wheel race cars in the world. The SL63 convertible used the same drivetrain before. There are many technical parallels between the two cars.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 Plug-In Hybrid with 805 HP is a beast

Hybrid with High Performance

The E Performance system has a 603-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine and an electric motor placed on the back of the car. The synchronous e-motor is always excited and makes 201 horsepower. A limited-slip differential and a two-speed clutch send the power to the wheels. The e-motor can send power to the front wheels if they need it for better grip. The hybrid system makes 805 horsepower and 1047 pound-feet of torque.

A small 6.1-kWh battery made just for AMG is mounted above the back axle and powers the e-motor. Its direct cooling technology moves a special fluid around each of the 560 cells to keep the temperature steady and make the battery work better. Mercedes says their new coolant can hold two to three times more heat than water-based systems and can store more thermal energy. The Mercedes battery technology is said to be influenced by the hybrid system used in its Formula One race cars. This system helps send power quickly and draw power over a long range. An onboard AC charger with a 3.7 kW capacity is used to charge the pack.

Mercedes says the E Performance can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 199 mph. That’s three-tenths of a second faster at 60 mph than what the company says the base GT63 can do. There are eight different drive modes: all-electric, sport, sport+, and race. The hybrid AMG has four modes for recharging the batteries. One of them is similar to driving an electric car with just one gear.

Extra technical benefits

Mercedes made the AMG GT63 S E Performance more efficient by adding a new carbon part to the undercarriage in front of the engine. This piece drops about 1.6 inches when the car hits 50 mph, creating a Venturi effect that pulls the car down and lowers the front end’s lift. The E Performance also has a retractable rear spoiler that can be raised at speeds over 50 mph and turned in five different directions to reduce drag or improve handling.

The E Performance comes with AMG’s active ride control technology as standard. Instead of mechanical anti-roll bars, it uses active hydraulics to work with adaptive dampers, and each of them has two hydraulic links. Mercedes says this technology makes it possible to achieve “a very wide roll spring rate while at the same time reducing rolling movements.” This means that the AMG can easily switch between sporty and comfortable handling for everyday use. Also, rear-wheel steering is normal, which makes the sports car more stable when speeding up quickly and more maneuverable in crowded areas.

A red “GT 63 S” badge, twin trapezoidal tailpipes, a charging port in the trunk, and “E Performance” labels on the front fenders are some of the small changes that have been made to the outside. The usual wheels are 20-inch Tantalum Grey wheels with ten spokes. You can also get wheels in 20- or 21-inch sizes. There are bronze six-piston fixed front calipers and a single-piston floating back caliper behind the wheels. These fit on front and back carbon-ceramic brake discs that are 16.5 inches and 15 inches, respectively.

There are a few changes inside. Standard are power-adjustable AMG sports seats that can massage you. There are many types of leather and microfiber upholstery, and you can also get performance bucket seats. Mercedes will also bring the Manufaktur Signature program to the US. This program includes hand-stitched steering wheels, nappa leather with diamond quilting inside the car, and different paint colors. The floor mats are deep pile, the LED door sill panels have a special pattern, and the center desk has the word “Manufaktur” written on it.

The GT63 S E Performance will be sold in the United States in late 2024. Mercedes hasn’t said how much it will cost yet, but it won’t be cheap. The base price of a GT63 is $177,050, so the new E-Performance model will cost more than $200,000.
