• Toyota’s GR Corolla will return in 2025 with a three-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces an amazing 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The first version of this sport compact car only had 295 pound-feet of torque; the 2023 Morizo special model had more.
  • To make it faster, a close-ratio, eight-speed direct automatic gearbox with launch control has been added to the lineup.
  • To lower the acceleration squat, the rear trailing arm mounting position has been raised. To lower the inner wheel lift, shocks with front and back internal rebound springs have been added.

Toyota isn’t just relying on the success of the GR Corolla; it’s adding many new features to its hot hatch to make it more appealing. First and foremost, an eight-speed automatic gearbox has been added, which means that stick shifters are less necessary. The fact that this change didn’t happen the other way around makes us feel better.

The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla, with its 8-Speed Automatic Transmission, Sticks it to the Man

The eight-speed Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) in the Toyota GR Supra and GR86 is more complicated than those in those cars. The GR Corolla tracks what the driver does with the pedal and brakes to make the car feel faster. The accelerator and brakes, on the other hand, use g-forces to change shift points.

The new transmission’s mpg has yet to be made public, but better gearing usually means higher mpg. That’s before you consider that this car has a Custom mode that lets you fine-tune your tastes in addition to Sport, Normal, and Eco settings.

We all need Morizo

The amazing 300-horsepower three-cylinder turbocharged engine still works, so not much has changed. The power has been “increased” to 295 pound-feet, which is 22 pound-feet more than last year. The issue is that this is just the 2023 Morizo version that is being sold. This amount of torque is now normal on all 2025 GR Corollas.

You won’t have to worry about whether or not your GR Corolla has front and back limited-slip differentials for traction. You won’t have to make that choice. All GRCs now come with these, so you don’t have to buy the Circuit model or hope that the one at the dealer has them. In 2025, it has the lowest CORE.

Toyota used the opportunity to fix the few problems found during the development process. Following tests at Fuji Speedway, they decided to add rebound springs to the front and back shocks to keep the wheels from lifting and improve grip when making sharp turns. In the same way, the mounting point for the following arm has been moved up to lower the acceleration squat and improve the turning position.

The GR Corolla also makes the main GR Four torque settings a little less stiff and makes the car easier to use. Before, there were three choices: 60:40, 50:50, and 30:70. You had to pick the one that worked best for the job. This has been taken away and replaced with Normal (60:40), Gravel (50:50), and Track (60:40 to 30:70). You may have noticed that the Track option’s power split is always changing. This is the way things ought to have been all along.

Another change that makes the tracks more useful is the addition of a sub-radiator. This is put in behind the new front grille, which makes the engine cooler and lasts longer on the track. This feature is required in the top grades, but it’s not in the lower grades.

Level of Thinking

In terms of grades, the 2025 GR Corolla comes in three trim levels this year. One of them is brand new because the equipment has been rearranged. The Core is near the bottom, and the Premium is just above it. Premium models come with a JBL sound system, suede seats with the GR logo, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, parking sensors in the front and back, and air vents on the front and back fascias. The third level is called Premium Plus because most of the features that improve speed have been moved to the Core grade. That’s nice of you.

The new Premium Plus comes with a sub-radiator, a head-up display, tires that are matte black, a formed carbon-fiber roof, a bulging hood with working air vents, and seats that are stitched in red. It also helps with work in some ways.

We don’t know the price yet. The basic 2024 Core model with a manual transmission, which is $37,635, might go up a little. The price of the automatic, on the other hand, is still unknown. It could be the same as the GR Supra, the same as the GR86, or none of the above. One thing is for sure: we’re ready to pay this much to keep the instructions up to date.
