• For 2025, the VW Golf GTI is getting a new look, and this is our first look at the Europe-spec car.
  • Its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine gives it a little more power, and the outside and inside have been improved.
  • Details about the US have yet to be discovered, but we will find out more later this year.

Volkswagen has officially shown off the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI just a few weeks after giving CES hints about it. This is the totally redesigned hot hatchback. It has a new look, more power, more color choices, and a number of technology updates inside that are meant to make the old Golf’s infotainment system better.

The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI was shown off with better technology and more speed

With 262 horsepower, the 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine gets a nice boost. At least, that’s what the car shown here in Europe-spec says. There may be some differences in how much power the US model has, but it will still be more than the current model’s 241 horsepower. It will be less of a loss when the six-speed manual transmission is taken out of the range because of more power. If you want one of the last stick-shift 2024 GTIs, you’ll need to act quickly because now the only transmission choice is a seven-speed dual-clutch.

The new GTI looks more modern than the old one, though the changes to the front body and LED headlights and taillights are minor. There are new wheel shapes, a black-painted top, and four new colors on the outside: two blues, silver, and black. You can now get a Volkswagen badge that lights up.

The updated GTI cabin is supposed to improve the entertainment system and get rid of some of the annoying touch-sensitive buttons in the old model. We can’t wait to test it out. The touch buttons on the center panel that let you change the volume and temperature are still there, but they are now lit up and said to be easier to use. Also, the driving wheel doesn’t have touch-sensitive buttons; it has real buttons. The screen has grown to 12.9 inches and now runs the newest MIB4 software from Volkswagen. This software has a new control system. Also, a new voice assistant tool has been added that can figure out where to go next.

VW is getting ready to show off the updated Golf GTI in the US later this year. Keep an eye out for more details. VW has said that the all-wheel-drive Golf R will still be made in the United States, but no changes have been made to the car yet.
