• The Volvo XC90, a “2025-1/2” model, will have fresh interior and outside design.
  • The remade interior, which also has an 11.2-inch vertical touchscreen, incorporates new software from the EX30 and EX90.
  • The new SUV will cost up to $59,745. It will start being made later this year, and it should be on sale in the U.S. in early 2025.

Volvo is aware of how well the XC90 SUV has done. Because of this, it hasn’t completely changed its three-row SUV in ten years. Volvo is bringing the XC90 up to date by offering it as a “2025-1/2” model with a new look and a redesigned interior. This is to compete with the electric EX90, which has become the company’s most popular product.

Redesigned Look

With numerous competitors in the mid-size luxury SUV segment, maintaining a strong image is crucial. The updated model features a redesign while still retaining the recognizable XC90 look. The T-shaped headlights are now slimmer and extend further into the front. Additionally, the front of the vehicle has been fully redesigned, with a fresh take on Volvo’s diagonal grille motif.

Also, the hood and bumpers have been redesigned to look less aggressive than they did in the last version. For a refresh, you need new paint and wheels. There are new styles in 20, 21, and 22-inch widths, as well as a new red paint color called 739 Mulberry Red.

The interior also gets a much-needed makeover with new materials, styles, and technologies. First, the dashboard is flatter and made of materials that feel good to the touch. New air vents make the dashboard stand out. The wireless charger is now below the center tube of the new center console. Thin cans can also fit in the cupholders.

The main 11.2-inch touchscreen now has the same updated user interface as the more current EX30 and EX90 SUVs. This is the biggest change to the inside. It used to be 9.0 inches long. Volvo says that it has a faster reaction time and a higher pixel density than the last version, but it still has the portrait orientation. The system is based on Google, just like in other Volvo cars. Many functions are hidden behind the screen, but the software is made so that you can easily reach the most important ones with just a few clicks.

Volvo improved the car’s protection to reduce outside noise. The interior update includes eco-friendly upholstery and new chrome inserts for the instrument panel and door panels.

Power You Know

The new XC90 is almost the same mechanically as the old one. The basic suspension has Volvo’s Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology built in. This lets each damper adjust to different road conditions.

The new model can still have three different powertrains. The more efficient burning cycle in regular hybrid cars makes them more efficient, but people are still determining the exact numbers. Electric motors with 48 volts power the B5 and B6 hybrid models. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the standard model makes 247 horsepower, and the B6 version makes 295 horsepower. The EPA says that the T8 plug-in hybrid model’s 14.7-kWh battery can power it for 33 miles in electric mode. The plug-in still makes 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. All three engines have all-wheel drive and are paired with an eight-speed automatic gear.

The exact cost will be known closer to the delivery date, but Volvo has said that the updated SUV will begin at $59,745. The plan is to start making things later this year. The new half-model-year car will be sold alongside the current XC90. It should arrive in North America in the first quarter of 2025.
